Spicing up the Dutch Harbor Run in FSX

Just for kicks if you want some excitement try landing at the AK23 strip after you land at Dutch Harbor. You will have to fly to AK23 using the GPS for direction as there is no terminal information available info at the NACO site covering this air strip. There likely is info in the DOD terminal info sets if you have access to them now.If you try it GOOD LUCK! Believe me you will need it to make the landing the first time around in the weather generated during the Dutch Harbor NDB and precision turn approach.AK23 is close to Dutch Harbor so it's only a few minutes more added to the original mission. Note there is no lighting at AK23 so you will need be on your toes.Monty

Which Dutch Harbor Mission Landing? With the Grumman Goose or the King Air? No sane Pilot would try the approach in the King Air in real life.Visibility exceeds the limit for a non-precision approach, winds exceed the maximum cross-wind component, and runway is barely legal for an almost full load.Who writes these things?:-spacecraft

An alternative to Dutch Harbor approach:Flt plan from airport such as Sand Point to Unalaska (DHarbor) using Beech 58 G1000. Use waypoint nav to ICYOHP to VOVUC to USUHU. Create several other waypoints up the bay west of the airfield. Speed 100kts, gear and one click of flap. Follow the west side mountains and turn where bay is widest back towards next waypoint. Turn is more than 90 degrees so speed control is important. Two other waypoints, the last turning to rwy 30. Use the altitudes from the flight plan and modify as necessary. Note: Save the flight at one of the published waypoints so the flight can be reflown as desired.I use A/P to autonav and alt control until last waypoint.I've done the same to the Innsbruck flight using G1000 and have created a waypoint approach direct to the runway following mountain valleys.Nice lesson in GPS capabilities and limitations.
