I've forgotten how to program for MSFS. But I have written plugins for X-Plane which correctly handle switch input on a joystick button. You could then use http://cross-simulator.com/ to connect the X-Plane PC to your MSFS one - but again I've forgotten how to program for MSFS (haven't used it for years) so I have no idea specifically how it works.

BU0836X card by leo bodnar. Look it up on youtube, Easiest thing to work with, and not very expensive either.if you do look it up, and think to yourself "it almost looks too easy" well, it is too easy really. I am a user myself and would recommend them for basic toggle switch and rotary encoder applications.
