Be interesting to know how functional that 747 is. Al

The shadows in that 4th shot look amazing, prime helicopter flying area! And look at the detail in the roads - you won't need UTX with this baby!

It will be more functional than the default FSX 747 in that it has an FMC and several other "systems", however, it is x planes default FMC and systems meaning it won't be study sim with accurate Boeing systems.

Overall, they are all really nice. The lighting in the second is particularly impressive, the fourth really showcases the new world they are creating, and the cockpit in the last is fantastic for default. The second picture I thought was slightly disappointing because I (personally) think the lights close up should be brighter. Also, in the fourth the line where the buildings stop being generated is a bit obvious, but considering what a massive improvement it is over FSX autogen, who cares!

I thought it would be a little more impressive than this. Just not that outstanding IMO. The mountains don't even have trees, they are just painted on the terrain. Posted Image

I'm pretty sure that's yet to come, per the note on their facebook page. the terrain looks like XP9 to me (as a regular user).  http://www.facebook....02526282&type=1

You are speaking WAAAY too soon.I'm not saying anything, except, just wait until you see what the trees look like. Apart from that, if it doesn't impress you that much, I guess you'll be sticking to MS Flight.

Good looking stuff - "but" - every couple of years I upgrade to the latest X-plane version but find myself going back to MS because X-plane still doesn't have the total functionality (easily accessible cockpit and instrument views, comprehensive ATC and such) that MS does - although each incremental release gets a little bit better - maybe this x-plane version will be the "big one" that brings it all together. Also - for a number of years the x-plane developers  pooh paahed aircraft and interior graphics such as those in MS as eye candy  and focused instead on the supposedly very accutate flight dynamics in X-plane.  Of course this completely missed the point that visual cues are a key element in creating the necessary suspension of disbelief for an effective simulation not to mention leaving out the viewing enjoyment factor that many simmers like just as much as accurate performance models These shots and some others floating around the net indicate that the X-Plane folks may have gotten the both the aircraft and exterior scenery graphics message - I hope so!

I am sure the qualities on display will motivate  developers to look into the new SDK , bringing their skillsets and Maxfiles into practice producing new Aircraft for this platform, i look forward to discussing some projects with friends like RXP.

Well, for the landscape, they are not the most representative (which I say as the guy in charge of the natural landscape in the sim). In many places, the landscape already looks ... uhm ... quite good (but of course I am not neutral here Posted Image ). AND, of course there are forests (even though I can't see them in the shots either). And there is one more thing, which might not be immediately obvious from the shots - but it is as soon as you fly the first time and it is partially visible in the screenshots - is the completely new atmospheric rendering (atmospheric scattering), which makes the landscape look even more real and adds a bit to the "being there" feeling. There are more cloud photos at the Facebook site of X-Plane (though, with old XP9 scenery):https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150333544711283.345752.339202526282&type=1

Looks great. As a Mac user (only keep Windoze around for FSX/FS9) it'd be great to consolidate on one OS for my simming needs. But we still haven't seen any big iron yet for X Plane that comes close to even the stuff that FS9 had 6 years ago (LDS 767, PMDG etc) and I won't be making the leap until there is. Fingers crossed eh?

Looks great. I guess the point that I was making is that X Plane has always been playing catchup in terms of systems fidelity and detail to Flight Simulator but this might change the game. Interesting stuff.

X Plane has had a LOT of work to do to convince people it's a worthy flight simulator.  It's only now, when Aerosoft, Carenado and a few other developers start coming over, do people start saying "Hey, what's happening here?"

X-Plane is currently on the final assembly line and you're seeing a collection of components, but not all the components together.....each of us has some component to add.  Terrain, autogen, forests, default objects, aircraft, etc...Most of us at laminar haven't  seen it all together yet.  As it comes together, all the parts will be filled in. This is directly from Austin Meyer of Laminar Research:  "the CLOUD screenshots were taken with v9 scenery.  Each screenshot shows 1 piece of the sim.. and they have not all come together yet." Martin Arant - Vmax Aero (consultant to Laminar Research)

Don't forget these guys.   http://www.youtube.com/user/IXEG1 They are really pushing the limits of heavy metal simulation in x-plane and demonstrating what it can do.   I think the future of heavy iron in xplane is looking pretty good and certainly the scenery engine and tools for building scenery will help get things moving too.
