Can't Download Files

Recommended Posts

Have had absolutely no trouble downloading for long time. Suddenly yesterday afternoon, when I get to the download point after veiwing a file, the download page says "Internet Explorer cannot open page." Tried on the new files list, then went to main library and same thing. This just started yesterday. Have NO trouble anywhere else.

Sorry to hear of you problems with the library - I am not sure why these are occurring for you. We are not having any technical difficulties with our library system at present and it is working fine for other users.See if some of the steps below can help you out:Check the settings on any Internet security software you may have - sometimes overzealous Internet security programs can cause these types of difficulties, they may be blocking downloads from or access to AVSIM.What browser are you using? - Internet Explorer tends to work fine with the AVSIM Library most of the time..... Keep in mind that Windows Update can change things without your permission or knowledge, if it updated recently this may be the reason why you are having difficulties.IE9 has proven to be very problematic, in my case I simply have refused to continue using it - too slow and it can cause issues with sites. I have reverted back to IE8 but overall I prefer using Firefox and GoogleChrome - I find these browsers vastly superior to IE. I only use IE to test the library from time to time. I might suggest you try a different browser such as GoogleChrome or Firefox (if you're not already using it). Most of us here at the Library, including me, use Firefox as our default browser due to its dependability - http://mozilla.com/products/firefoxEarlier versions of Google Chrome had issues with FTP and caused problems with downloading from the AVSIM library. However this has been resolved in new versions of the browser - I have tested it in detail and it works very well with the AVSIM site, library and forums. Please be aware that at the present time we do not support Download Managers. If you are using a download manager, switch it off and try again. I myself have noticed that the Free Download Manager tends to work fine with the AVSIM Library, its what I use - www.freedownloadmanager.org . Use of other Download Managers will cause you problems with downloading from our system. Also you can try this:You need to put www.avsim.com, www.avsim.net, library.avsim.net and forums.avsim.net in your trusted sites list. You do this by clicking on TOOLS, INTERNET OPTIONS, SECURITY tab, and then highlite TRUSTED SITES, and click on SITES. UNCHECK the box that requires SERVER VERIFICATION (HTTPS) and add the Avsim URL addresses. You could also delete all the files in your "Temporary Internet Files" folder (cache), including all cookies and all off-line content - sometimes too many files and cookies here may cause problems or your AVSIM cookies could have been corrupted. Deleting them and starting fresh should solve that. Its generally a good idea to periodically clear your cache from time to time. I tend to do it at least once every week.

He's not the only one, I am having the same problem, started about the same time as well. I cannot download any files with IE, SeaMonkey, Firefox, or Chrome. All browsers give a variation of the same message, cannot connect to library.avsim.net after the download page comes up...

Try the stuff I've mentioned already. The library is working fine. I've tested it thoroughly and can download fine in IE, Firefox and GoogleChrome. Its most likely some Internet security software on your system that's blocking downloads from or access to AVSIM.

The only security I have is AVAST antivirus, I have tried downloading with all AVAST disabled, no joy. I have cleaned all my caches, all temp and temp internet files, all browsing history, cookies, etc. Cookies are enabled. Still can't download from Avsim with any browser, but can download from anywhere else.Any more suggestions would be appreciated.

Sorry to hear you're still having problems.Has 'Windows Update' updated your system recently? - this has a tenancy to screw things up sometimes. Its definitely something on your end stopping the downloads. There are no problems with the library - its working fine.

I've been have this problem for about six months now. I can only download one file every 15 minutes. If I try to do two, I get "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage." I tried the suggestions mentioned in this thread, but still no luck. Is there something else I could try? Thanks,Mike

Try any other browser except MSIE. MSIE has known issues with this forum and is SLOW compared to Chrome, Firefox, etc. I use Chrome and have no issues with forums or the library.

Sam, try running a ping to library.avsim.net to see if you have any packet loss. We haven't had any reports regarding this issue and I'm not sure what would be causing this. I might try a router/modem reset, clear cache, yada yada the basics just for good measure.

Haven't answered/replyed back here in quite some time.

Problem turned out to be, belive it or not, my modem!! Got a new one, (was also having other, unrelated problems at other sites,) and finally the modem just quit. Installed new one, and ALL problems, at all sites gone.

Except one. My ISP, (Windstream) cut my DSL speed from 10MB to 3MB, to try to find problem. Now, because the package I have is no longer available, they won't set it back! Because they have no proof that was what I had! (They bought out my original ISP/phone company.) And I can't upgrade as a new customer, getting the lower price, because I'm an existing customer! And no competeing ISPs service my small rural town! (Sometimes it sucks living in rural areas.)

Yeah... me too. Cannot download anything and have tried on IE and Firefox. Have tried suggestions posted here. Both browsers set to accept cookies, trusted site, etc. No problems with Flightsim, Simviation, FS Nordic, etc.... Must be a 'user issue.' Dang.

Thanks,

Steve

May I jump in here? Whenever I try to download a file, I get the message: 'Failed - network error.'

It is only happening with downloads from this site.

Any suggestions please?

Thank you.

Alan.
