Yes, very sad. I was hoping it would not happen. :sad:I had a lot of enjoyable RW flights with Malev on their Tupolevs and then boeings.

I guess Paul may have meant the legacy Hapag-Lloyd livery in one of his packages?Years ago Hapag was merged into the TUIfly group and TUIfly is still operating (making the skies more yellow).

Yes, you can say I am lagging behind now, or.. euh back in time, when it was more fun. No more button pushing for me, but real flying.Anyhow, watch out for more, oil prices go up fast now, thanks Israel-US, we will see more closures this year I think.

You are correct Rafal, I did the Hapag for Tui swap this am!!!Wow Johan, I don't really want this to get political but that is a pretty simplistic view of things...  Perhaps we should stick to Flightsim topics...

This does belong in the Hanger Chat. If none of us follow the rules this could quickly become the "I play FS9 so I can post about anything" sub section.....

I don't think this is being driven by the carbon tax...this is the direct result of crippling levels of debt.  At some point the debt pyramid collapses under its own weight.  And there are a lot more carriers all over the world circling the drain for the same reason.

Quite true Bob. But the carbon tax will make things worse. Australia is even now starting to feel the pain of self destruction of extra taxes here. Qantas is adding $$$ to its fares to cover the tax.For countries in crippling levels of debt the last you need is more taxes! Ouch!!Europe has enjoyed a huge tourism industry for years now, but how can they keep their heads above water by charging tourists more? The tourists are already poor and the more they take in tax the less there is in earning potential for business which provides taxes. Cutting taxes as Reagan did in the Eighties actually brought record tax income for the US Government AND made the US economy BOOM. The last time that happened was in the twenties. The roaring twenties.Just my 'economic' opinion.Daniel

I heard about it - a very sad day! I flew to Budapest with malev last summer and absolutely loved it. Ample space for my feet, nice sandwiches, nice service... Really sad. But, in my simulated world the year will always be 2010, so malev will keep flying in my computer :)

I was listening to National Public Radio a couple of weeks back, and they were talking about people having big problems with their home mortgages in Hungary.  The problem is that mortgages are typically not in the Hungarian currency of the forint, but rather in Swiss Francs.  You can see why banks want the kind of stability this provides, but it's very hard on Hungarian consumers when their mortgages go up by what looks like (quickly glances at graph) over a 20% jump in the past year.If Malev's debt was also in Swiss Francs while their income was in forints, then yeah, that's a problem.
