Nice Ben, did you do the OC or did you purchase it that way?

Kevin

I bought the base model reference card from EVGA.

I OC'ed with the help of SpiritFlyer.

I am stable @ 900MHZ with 1.1volts.

Watch your GPU temps. You may want to up the default fan speed for the GPU. I run mine around 60% to keep cooler. FSX gpu temps are nouthing like FLIGHT temps (When I beta tested it) on my 580 but I never liked stock fan speeds.

Nice one Ben, finally you have a decent GPU! Now try 2x or 4x SGSS along the 8xS, like Dario said. That is quality!

I tested aroung with SGSS but I couldn't find a sweetspot.

Whenever I tried the SGSS, I got severe microstutters and the sim was jerky. Any ideas?

So far, the best AA setting for me is 16xS+2xSS.

Not really, mine is butter smooth with 2x SGSS. 4x causes quite a hit, but still no stutters, if 30 FPS are achieved.

Both Dario and me are using SGSS, possibly others too, I never heard anyone complain. 16xS causes quite more FPS hit here, than combined 8xS with 2x SGSS, I think (last time I tested).

Interesting. I have found 16xS to be much more smooth. I guess every system is different right?

I just tried 8xS + 2xSGSS and the sim was shimmering and frames were skippy.

Unbelievable...

I am using 295.73.

I even just did a test with 8xS + 2xSGSS and frames were about 10 FPS lower than 16xS + 2xSS.

How many MS runs do 8xS and 16xS do?

going by this(posted by Ryan at the PMDG forums), you need to combine SSGS with an AA mode with the same amount of multisample passes

Which tweaks are you using and how are FPS controlled?

Bojote tweak tool. BP=0 and I have frames set to 55FPS.

OK, no wonder you are getting stutters.

EDIT:

Btw. did a little test for you:

4xSGSS 8xs cloud test 18fps

2xSGSS 8xs cloud test 27fps

2xSS 16xS cloud test 19fps

4xSS 8xS cloud test 36fps

Situation:

Rename to .rar and load if you want to compare. Press S after you load it to enter external view, I noted external view FPS. FPS measured by FRAPS.

4xSS 8xS cloud test 36fps

I am testing this one as we speak. -- No stutters, nice and smooth, but it isn't as crisp as I would like. So far, 16xS + 2xSS has been my favorite due to the amazing image quality and little FPS hit.

Did you test against my file? That one has heavy heavy clouds to really represent what card is capable of when it comes to some heavy cloud situations from Activesky (5 overcast layers).
