Windows 7 FSX Fatal Error fix (or suggestion)

Recommended Posts

Firehawk, the FSX Configuration Guide is great!

Thanks for your kind comments. We made it simple and it does work.

I think I read also that mse files use VAS as well AND THAT ALL mse files are a load on FSX unless they are turned off in the scenery area of FSX.

That's correct. Discussed in the FSX Config guide and AVSIM CTD Guide. Any photoscenery you are not using must be disabled as it will load if enabled.

Glad to hear about all of your successes. This hobby is more fun when you do not have to mess around with crashes and freezes all of the time. I still get some occasionally but they are not reproducible and I know exactly what I did wrong (i.e., forgot to disable some MSE scenery, raised a couple of ASN and/or REX settings, etc.).

The only concern I see in your config is Autogen: Very Dense. Autogen is a framerate killer plus it eats VAS too. This was proven in Lockheed's P3DV2 which is basically the same sim as FSX and they optimized the Autogen so it would not use so much VAS. There are other programs that did this too in FSX, like GEX and, I'm not positive, REX too. Orbx/FTX has suggested settings for Autogen in everyone of their manuals based on the power of your system. Still you have to be very careful. With MSE, you do not need Autogen turned on and one of the reasons why I use MSE scenery exclusively.

Interesting. After hours of flying, the fatal error problem returned even though I am minimizing scenery and hopefully, as a result, VAS usage per my note above.

Only thing different is I added and A2A C-182 which is kind of a frame hog.

Is a lower frame rate an indicator of high VAS usage in anyway?

Also, does VAS 'clear out' at any time like on shut down of the program. The error problem has carried over to other aircraft so I am wondering how one clears out this Virtual Address Space?

Be Well

A lower fps does not necessary mean high VAS usage. Only when VAS is near depletion which will be near the end of the flight or after about 2 hours of flight time depending on the scenery and your settings. Of course, the higher the settings, the faster VAS will be used up as you are requesting more and more resources to be called and rendered. Bad thing about high fps is that things are rendering faster and thus may be taking up VAS.

VAS may go back up during a flight depending on the scenery/view. If you use the FSUIPC VAS monitor (as discussed in the AVSIM CTD Guide), you can log your VAS usage in the fsuipc.log. I have a desktop icon for the fsuipc.log so that after a flight I can immediately call up the fsuipc.log and see how much VAS was used. Fun stuff!
