Which file stores aircraft types?

This is probably an odd question, but I assume there must be a file somewhere within FS9 which stores allowable aircraft models for the purposes of default ATC identification. I'm referring to the fact that one has to list, say, a Boeing 737-400 as atc_model=B734, which default ATC, coupled with the setting atc_type=BOEING translates as "Boeing 737". Whereas with Airbus a/c, one simply lists atc_model settings as A318, A319, etc.

 

The reason for the question is I have a whole flock of HJG Lockheed L1011 aircraft, which I very much enjoy flying. The atc_type is set to "Lockheed", which ATC deals with fine, but it can't do anything with the atc_model entry of L1011, as supplied in the original aircraft.cfg files for the planes, which means it simply identifies these planes as "Lockheed" and lets it go at that. If I can find the file which holds the information FS9 uses for this type of identification, I'll know how to change the entries in the relevant aircraft.cfg files.

 

Granted, it's being perfectionistic almost to the point of being compulsive, but I would appreciate any insight anyone could share.

What you are desiring would require a modification to the atc voice files located in the FS9 / Sounds folder, using the software called EditVoicepack. You might get the file for Lockheed L1011 to add from somewhere or you may have to create it yourself by way of the program mentioned.

 

Ooops, just opened the program myself and did a search.

 

Try: atc_model=L101 In the AC configuration file. Not positive about this but it is worth a try. It look right.

It is possible to use EditVoicePack to make new words for ATC to say but it is a bit fiddly, so before you start that, it's worth considering whether the aircraft.cfg file actually has the right atc_model code in it.

L101 seems the correct entry by 2 votes to 1 with Wikipedia taking a different view! L1011 probably isn't the right entry....

 

If you can't make it work by changing the aircraft.cfg file, it's best to search through EditVoicePack has an "L1011" phrase of some kind in there before you start trying make your own. This is very sensitive L1011 isn't the same as L10-11 or L 1011 etc etc, so the text in the aircraft.cfg has to be exactly right.

 

A classic one is Speed Bird or Speedbird for British Airways, one works, the other doesn't [although I can't remember which]. McDonnell Douglas is another - I think I'm right in saying it has to be written "McDonnellDouglas" to work.

This may not cover everything, but should include the codes that exist in the FS9 voicepack. This includes code "L101" that will get ATC to say "L-1011". The last time I looked there were some omissions that can corrected with the EditVoicePack software.
