MD11 sweeping during flight?

Hi guys;

 

My MD11 started to act in unusual way when heading or LNAV is selected, it keeps sweeping left and right around the flight line.

I do not know what happened but it was OK some time a go.

 

Do I have to re-install?

I have noticed PMDG aircraft and some others that play with the FSX autopilot system that certain wind directions tend to make the autopilot go bonkers on correcting and then overcorrecting.

And the PMDG 747 I have had enter snaking turns when following a STAR because it couldn't seem to understand that it needed to do a proper turn.

What weather engine do you use?

If you have a registered version of FSUIPC it is recommended to enable wind smoothening within FSUIPC.

Also, you shouldn't use time acceleration with PMDG products. 4x maybe works, however if your computer is to slow the auto pilot will mess up.

- I do have a registered version of FSUIPC and wind smoothening is enabled.

- I'm flying my FSX in normal acceleration (speed).

- My system is i7 980x at 4.2Gh/12Mb RAM and 2X nVIDIA GTX580 1.5 Gb RAM. and 3 SSD's.

Just call it NAV mode. That's the legend on the MCP pushbutton.

I have today experienced the same behaviour. I also have a registered FSUIPC, with wind smoothening enabled. My NGX works perfactly fine but my MD11 is turning left to right... I cleared all weather too to see if I got any difference, but no. I use REX. Will try without it but i just wonder why my NGX works fine and not MD11...

If this happens at altitude,  do you have upper level winds enabled in FSX.  using FSInn weather engine, I started using ASE and disabled upper level winds and no longer have the problem.  FSX weather engine sucks.

The settings in post #1 of this thread http://forum.avsim.net/topic/387061-activesky-2012-settings-what-i-am-using-now-with-ngx/ is what I am using in AS2012 and FSX. It is working for the PMDG NGX, MD-11, and the 747-400. I have download wind aloft data enabled in FSX. I used to have S-turn issues with all three planes - none now.

Some additional insight:

 

When this is happening, take a quick outside view from behind the aircraft and watch your rudder action.  I had similar issues witht the PMDG B744 and noticed that rudder was moving slightly side to side.  I found that if I enabled the "auto-coord" in the FSX menu it stopped the flutter.  I now fly with "auto-coord" checked "on" while on autopilot and only switch if off for approach or during manual flight.

 

Don't know if that is OP issue but that is the only similar experience I have had with any of the mentioned aircraft.  As to the registered FSUIPC and wind turbulence options, this was the "fix" for the BIG S-turn issue IIRC which may be unrelated.

You don't have to reinstall. This happens to me on a lot of flights with the PMDG 747 and PMDG MD-11. When it happens, just don't use time compression, and give the aircraft time to stabilize. Also, don't forget to turn on the seatbelt sign when that happens!

The MD-11 does have LNAV, because the FMC is controlling the automated Lateral NAVigation of the aircraft. LNAV is really just a term in modern airliners, not a company-specific system.

This, why do people assume LNAV is Boeing terminology? You wouldn't say RNAV was Boeing specific so why would you say LNAV is?
