Are you already running any addons which get loaded with that dll.xml and exe.xml? If so, perhaps disable them for now and test if the clean FSX can make it. It should.

I only saw reports that addons of any kind (means planes and their dlls too) sometimes develop problems. But that's on a case to case basis then.

Did you already check the fsx.exe to always run as admin and things? You know, with the right click and checking that option. Maybe it helps.

The Windows 8 uiautomationcore.dll caused your crash. You need to have Microsoft.net 3.5 installed. Plus you need to download and install the Vista version of the uiautomationcore.dll and place it in your fsx directory so it loads instead of the one for Windows 8. See this link for further info - http://forum.avsim.net/topic/273341-heres-the-apparent-fix-to-fsx-crashing-win-7-x64/.

Thanks Jim,

I don't know how you worked that out from all that data, but you were right. FSX works fine now, even with all of my add-ons going.

hello Jim,

im running windows 8 on Dell xps2x and ctds just love me. Well what did i already do? I installed fsx fresh on its default folder, i installed sp1 right after, acceleration followed up since it has the sp2 included, then activesky 2012, then i put the vista famous anti crash *.dll file into the main fsx folder but when i tried to install the microsoft.net framework 3.5 as you suggested above, my install wizard doesnt respond so i dont know if it is installed or not :( and whitout knowing this, if i run the game again and it crashes i wont know what caused it. How do i proceed?

When you installed FSX, did you start up FSX and run it before installing SP1?  You must!  You do not have to install SP1 if you have Acceleration.  It is included in the Acceleration package but I don't think it did any harm.  If you have Acceleration you need only install FSX Deluxe and then Acceleration but you need to run FSX before installing another program.

Regarding the anti-crash dll in your main FSX folder - I would also remove the uiautomationcore.dll from your main FSX directory.  Since you did get a crash, the Vista version obviously did not stop it.  The uiautomationcore.dll only fixes one problem and that's a crash if you repeatedly hit the FSX menu bar.  I personally cannot replicate this crash and have tried several times to crash my FSX by repeatedly clicking on the fsx menu bar.  No joy...  I really think the menu bar crash is caused by high settings where fsx is running short of memory by the constant hitting on the menu bar.  I do not have the uiautomationcore.dll in my main fsx folder and never have.  The uiautomationcore.dll belongs with the Microsoft.net framework packages and, developers of FSX and FSX addons require dotnet versions 1.1 thru 4.5 installed to make their products work properly.  I believe the Vista version of dotnet is 1.1 as it is installed with FSX/Acceleration.

You can check your Windows folder for installation of Microsoft.net.  You should have versions 1.1 through 4.5 installed.  Look in Windows\Microsoft.net\Framework(x86)\then the various versions.  You can go to the following link and use that tool to ensure you have all required dotnet framework programs properly installed - http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/10/13/8999004.aspx.

Make sure you right click any installer and select "Run as Administrator".  Disable UAC - http://www.forumswindows8.com/tutorials/disable-uac-windows-8-a-4070.htm.

Best regards,

Jim

Fantastic, let me remove them all then and reinstall fsx deluxe alone and run it before applying any service packages then add the acceleration pack.....ok i just did that and, with hidden menu bar, as soon as i played the sitka approach mission and started aligning with the runway it crashed out to windows, then it debugged back into the game and then right after flying over the cruiser it crashed again and then before touching the groung it crashed again and it kept on repeating untill i had enough of it and quit.

As you instructed, i found out i have framework 2 through 4.5.

Now i guess i still have the option of installing the acceleration pack and see what happens, right?

Ok, it got even worse now with the acceleration pack on. Now the same mission freezes right from the start and keeps going. :(

And oh yes, i forgot, it did freeze right at the beggining because i hit spacebar and scrolled down the mouse button to navigate the cockpit.

My god, why i have no luck with flight sims?? I just installed microsoft flight which is supposed to support windows 8 and it crashes the same way. I bought the x-plane 10 installed and it wouldnt even let me in with an error. So i got get its updater and try to run it but it asks for the physical dvd which i dont have because i ordered the downloadable version.

Ok, i got it to stop crashing!! No need to have automationcore in the folder, it happened because i stop playing flight sims and went on to engage in race sims (tdu2) and i got crashed out the same way, the sound started to make weird noise and the screen got blue and black and what not so i said ok then, the fsx is healthy after all. So i just opened the google and found nvidia website and installed a specificic win 8 pro driver for my card and that was it.

The FSX graphics after the install got poor a bit, there was no lag but u could see the texture was no near the image quality from the previous driver...but its gotten better eventually. But the most joy is that u can now play whatever mission or follow whatever flightplan u want, fly from north to south pole with no technical interruption and over 40 fps woohoo, good luck to anyone experiencing this stuff.
