Will PMDG ever do a business jet?

Recommended Posts

Please give us the BBJ before anything else! (and perhaps the 900ER?). Doing some ETOPS on a BBJ goes way before any falcon/learjet or whatever small bizjets in my opinion.

A modern bizjet cannot be done as a in-between project of DC-6 or JS41 calibre, as a modern bizjet is in the same ballpark of complexity as a modern airliner is... Which is a lot of complexities.

Still I would love to get a 7X in PMDG quality.

The BBJ would be the logical step for a PMDG Business Jet, since they already have the NGX base to work from.  And from what it looks like the BBJ would be the only ultra long range biz jet of high quality for the forseeable future, unless FSL or Blackbox decides to do an ACJ from their A320.

Cheers

Bummer if that's still true. I had hoped for some involvment from PMDG's side in the bizjet field, rather than seeing them make vintage aircraft which I couldn't care less about.

As for other business jet addons ... I've tried whatever is out there in the market for FSX and didn't find a real keeper, for various reasons.

Gents-

I'll dive in just so that nobody has to guess about our position with respect to a bizjet...

I do not see PMDG ever doing a bizjet, as it just really isn't something that fits into our product mix...

There are a ton of reasons why this is true, including equipment commonality, aggressive protectionism by some bizjet makers, etc.

Then of course there is the fact that the vast majority of simmers are more interested in airliners...

So....  No....  I don't see it.

Too bad. Very sad, indeed.

So the "bigger is better" and/or the vintage crowd has prevailed again. Sigh.

You could just treat your current NGX like a BBJ.  There are quite a few nice BBJ Skins out there already.  So you won't be able to fly 6000NM, but you can still fly anywhere in the world with the NGX with a fuel stop or two.   I think Boeing also offers BBJ variant of the 777.

I would love to see some vintage biz jets out there tho.  Saberliner, Falcon 10, Lear 23/24, Jetstar, etc...would be awesome.

I'm willing to pay quite some buck for a PMDG-quality Learjet 60XR. But we have been told that no such thing is going to happen.

There is a Lear 24/25/28 addon out there, but the "simulation" is quite shallow. The makers themselves have stated that they see it more as a game rather than a sim.

I'd love to see an integrated Garmain G1000 with the PFD with the virtual terrain including runway visualization. There was a Cessna Mustang that had a (quite buggy imo - Just try to do a runway change after inserting an approach several minutes before and you will find yourself looking at your desktop.) implimentation of the G1000, but it does not have terrain and runway on PFD like the real one does.

Runway visible on PFD in G1000

Runway visible on G1000 PFD on approach

Terrain on PFD in G1000

The lack of these features is a downer on their own, but the issue with being unable to change runway/approach/star etc on the fly after initial insertion of such, is a game breaker for me (Flying on VATSIM... ATC changes runway, suddenly you crash to desktop) so although I own the F1 Cessna Mustang, I don't fly it online anymore simply because the Avionics aren't doing what they should.

Having a G1000 that worked properly, integrating into a glass cockpit would be great. Don't care which aircraft it gets put in... Cessna Citation, Embraier Phenom, Diamond DA40/42... Preferably something pressurized and at least turboprop if not Jet powered.

One of the new touch screen type GPS (GNS650/750 or G3000) would be interesting to see in FSX too.

The RealityXP GNS530/430 is very very nice, and I like putting it to work in as much of my GA as possible. The fact that the realityXP GNS530 can go in several different aircraft is a deftinate advantage, although the fastest thing I have it installed in is the BE60 Duke.

Here's it in action on the Realair Beechcraft BE60 Duke on Vatsim.

If your talking about the Xtreme Prototypes it's certainly not a light sim..it's quite good in fact in terms of systems.

Personally, I don't want an overly complicated bizjet. If you have a bizjet that's has an FMC, LNAV, VNAV, and G1000s, than you might as well be flying an airliner anyway. I prefer bizjets like the Citation Excel, Falcon 50s and 2000s,  and the older Learjets as well. Anything that doesn't have more than a simple autopilot. I like a combination of GA and airline flying. You get the speed and range of airlines with the simplicity and ease of GA flying.

I think Milviz is thinking about doing a C21/Lear 35 which will be great if they do.

All Falcon 2000s have (at the very least) a full glass Honeywell Primus avionics suite, including FMC LNAV, VNAV, etc. Newer 2000s with the Honeywell EASy advanced avioncs package, offer avionics capabilities considerably beyond what would be found in most airliners.

Although the Falcon 50 fleet originally had no FMS, virtually all 50s currently flying have been retrofitted with (at the very least) an aftermarket FMS - (usually a Universal UNS-1). With full RNP-1 LNAV and partial VNAV.

The same holds true for older Lears, like the 35 and 55... I've worked on dozens of both models, and have never seen one that did not have an aftermarket FMS.

While there are still some Falcon 50's with the original analog flight instruments, most have been (or will be) retrofitted with glass cockpits as repair parts for the old analog instruments and their interconnecting hardware are becoming very difficult to obtain.

By far, the majority of business jet aircraft have avionics that equal anything found on an typical airliner. While it is true that many smaller biz jets do not have autothrottles, most do have at least a partial VNAV implementation. Bizjets with "just a simple autopilot" are the exception, not the rule.

Older Citations are the only bizjet airframes I can think of that might be found with the original vintage avioncs in any significant numbers.

Now if you're talking about GA turboprops, that's a different matter. Still plenty of older King Airs, Cheyennes, etc, that are still pretty much "stock" avionics-wise, though even there, you'd be hard pressed to find one that did not have at least an IFR GPS, and most were required to be retrofitted with TAWS terrain avoidance systems by 2005. (That requirement was often met by the installation of a Garmin GNS-530)

There is certainly noting to prevent you from enjoying a "classic" bizjet add-on, like the Lear 20 series, but these reflect the bizjet "state of the art" 30 or more years ago, definitely not the way a typical GA bizjet is configured or operated in 2013.

A bizjet from 20-30 years ago is exactly what I want. I don't need to always fly, say realistically, or "up to date." That's the beauty of a simulator. I guess I can live with a more complicated autopilot, but no FMC, I'd rather be looking out the windows than pressing buttons...
