Another fatal crash topic. Sorry.

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I recently tried to launch FSX and on the start up it gave me a fatal error, it used to work before, but I thought, no big deal, I'll reinstall, so I did from the 2 Deluxe disks, tried to launch, fatal error. So I installed SP1, tried to launch, yup, same, and then SP2 gave the same result.

I'm on a 32 bit Windows 7 machine, no problems in the past.

I looked all over the internet, and found lots of solutions, none which were suitable or functional for me. Yes, I've tried uiautomationcore.dll even though I'm on a 32 bit machine thought I would give it a go.

I've on this forums lots of help to other people, so I was hoping you could help me, I would be grateful if you could.

Here is the Windows error

Have not seen this error in FSX.

You can also try to run FSX in compatibility mode.  Right click on fsx.exe, select properties, then compatibility and then Run with compatibility with Windows XP.  Make sure you are right clicking the FSX icon and selecting Run as Administrator.

Best regards,

Jim

That's what I thought, I didn't think it was a common error.

I've tried running with different combos of compatibility and as an administrator none of them work.

I think I may install Windows 7 x64, will work better I'm guessing, oh well, thanks for your response anyway.

Maybe you can save some time, here is one different approach - If you want, try my settings which usually makes FSX extremely stable:

 - make a backup of your fsx.cfg

 - delete FSX.CFG, run FSX and apply all your settings again

 - open fsx.cfg and apply all tweaks again

- update FSUIPC to the latest version here http://forum.simflight.com/topic/66139-updated-modules/

- check / update Direct X: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35

- check / install "ENU (vcredist_x86.exe)" here: http://archive.msdn.microsoft.com/KB961894/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=2067

 - check SDK / simconnect version for your version of FSX: http://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki/index.php?title=Special:Whatlinkshere/SimConnect_SDK_(FSX)

- disable UAC http://www.mydigitallife.info/how-to-disable-and-turn-off-uac-in-windows-7/

- disable DEP using the second metod with command prompt: http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/what-is-data-execution-prevention-dep-and-how-to-disable-it-in-windows-vista/ http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/what-is-data-execution-prevention-dep-and-how-to-disable-it-in-windows-vista/

- Exclude FSX main folder from your antivirus scanning

 -  right click on fsx.exe, go to compatibility tab and click on "change settings for all users", and in "compatibility for all users" window - check only "disable visual themes" and "disable desktop composition"(don't run fsx in any compatibility mode).  After that click on apply, ok, apply and ok untill you clear all windows

 - Download this file and just put it in FSX main folder https://dl.dropbox.com/u/31158446/Blog/UIAutomationCore.rar (if you allready have this, overwrite the old one, just to be sure)

- apply this microsoft patch: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947246

 - open FSX.CFG and set your Texture max load to 2048. If you need 4096 for NGX VC, you can set all other textures to max 2048(REX clouds, payware airports, all!) and than set in fsx.cfg 4096.  Use DXT optimized REX clouds where you can - from REX settings display. You can also disable all scenery which is not used for current flight, all addon and especially payware scenery

Go to start and type "services" and run it.

- find and disable all services you find in this list disabled: http://www.simforums.com/forums/topic34141_post201316.html#201316

- If you use FSInn, check that FSCopilot is the last entry in your DLL.XML. If not, move it there, and after installing new addons check and move FSCopilot to the last position, allways!

- Check integrity of your DLL.XML: http://support.precisionmanuals.com/KB/a92/dllxml-information-and-troubleshooting.aspx

p.s. - don't use ENB and sweetfx

The fsui.dll handles the user interface for fsx such as the menu and kneeboard.  I think you might have a problem with the dll.xml.  If you did not completely uninstall fsx then your reinstalled version will have the same files that were causing you problems before.  There are many hidden folders that are not completely deleted and uninstalled when you uninstall FSX.  What you need to do is uninstall FSX completely using the procedure at the following link - http://support.precisionmanuals.com/KB/a87/how-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-fsx.aspx.  The only thing I would add to the excellent procedure for uninstalling/reinstalling fsx is to run a registry cleaner like CCleaner before reinstalling.  The dll.xml is located in the same folder as your fsx.cfg and this is one of the hidden folders.

Best regards,

Jim
