Loss of altitude alert during approach

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

First, congratulation for your 777. I'm flying a real one, and it's amazing.

During my first flight tests, everything was fine. Recently, I noticed that I have lost all the approach altitude alerts, from 1,000 to 10 feet.

I have saved several default flight and save several panel state. I checked the FMC menu option, but all of those alert are activated.

I am going to start with the default cessna 172, to switch to the 777, and make some tests.

Anybody have this issue ?

Cheers,

Vincent

it is actually not recommended to start a flight with the C172 and then change to 777.

Read the manual, page 29

Dont make the PMDG777 the default flight either.

Hi,

Thanks for the information.

Finally, I desinstall - clean FSX - clean the registry and re-install the 777.

I started FSX with the default aircraft and scenery, choose the 777, but I have the same issue, still no RA calls during the approach. I checked the FMC setup menu, but everything is ok.

Any idea ?

Thanks,

Vincent

Hmmmmm.

Are all sound sliders in FSX at 50% as they should be?

Also, make sure you speaker config in windows is correct.

If you have surround sound setup for example, but not working correctly then maybe some sounds are going to speakers that are not even connected.

Hi,

The sound setting in windows and FSX are correctly tuned.

Initially, the RA calls was working, but disappeared at a moment. By the way, even the calls <<Approaching minimum>> and <<Minimums>> cannot be heard.

But I can heard those calls with other aircrafts.

This should be your absolute last resort.  I still have no idea why people here jump to that action so quickly...

Have you checked to ensure the settings for the aircraft have these callouts set to ON?

The intro manual explains how to manipulate these settings.

Hi,

Don't worry, I just desinstall and re-install the 777, just in case.

And yes, the callouts are on the  ON position on the PMDG setup/aircraft/equipment/GPWS page 6/9. I have checked also on the operation center, save the options, but I have the same problem.

By the way, I don't have also the call 500 when established on an ILS.

Everything sound fine... but I don't have those sounds!

My point is that uninstalling anything should be your last resort.  Try troubleshooting first.  If that doesn't work, then sure, you can try a reinstall, but again, that should be the absolute last resort.

To be honest, if they were working at one point and then stopped, it must be something you changed.

You know....at first I thought it was just one or two that were trying a reinstall.....but you are right.

It seems the first everybody does if something does not work as expected is delete and reinstall!

It is diffucult to see how much trouble shooting the person has done....but I certainly get the impression many are very impatient waiting for an answere and in the meantime just reinstall.

I am not impatient for an answer, but I try to solve the problem.

After playing with several default flight and panel state save, the problem should not come back after a fresh install, right ?

But it came again, after no change on any setup or other.

Seems to be a real bug.

So, to summarize :

- 777 install

- full cockpit preparation

- Panel state saved

- Situation saved and set as default flight

- RA calls ok for several flights

- RA calls dissapears after that.

- Check of the FMC setup menu, altitude callouts ON

- Test flight : no altitude calls

- Check of the setup in the operation center : altitude calls ON. I click on Save.

- Test flight : no altitude calls

- Desinstall - clean FSX and registry - clean install of the 777

- full cockpit preparation

- Panel state saved

- Situation saved and NOT set as default flight

- RA calls ok for several flights

- RA calls dissapears after that.

- Check of the FMC setup menu, altitude callouts ON

- Test flight : no altitude calls

- Check of the setup in the operation center : altitude calls ON.

- Test flight : no altitude calls

Ok, any idea about what am I suppose to try ?

Thanks.

Yes, but is that is just the point.

You have a problem....might be a real problem.

Then you reinstall.

You still have the problem.

So was the reinstall necesarry?

It does look like it, but I actually did not mean to call you impatient.

Just generaly people seem impatient.

Also, like Kyle said, if everything was ok at first....and then it was not.

Then it would not be logicall to expect a reinstall to make things better.

Unless of course you did something to corrupt the install.

Anyway, back to you problem......eeeeehm

Something is screwing with your sound....ok.....

You dont have the PMDG setup as your default flight have you?

That is not recommended!

Keep a default FSX flight as default flight.

Dont start a flight in this default aircraft!

Instead, choose the PMDG 777 from the list and select fly now.

There is also an option to set the aircraft panel state back to the way it was (default).

Try can that.

Maybe the panel state that you have saved is not the one you are actually flying with.

If you load a flight from "saved flights" it comes with the panel state from the moment that flight was saved. (I think)

Not with the panel state you have last saved for that particular aircraft!

reload the saved panel state and you should be good.

Better yet, reload a default panel state (one of an airframe that you have not altered yet).

Thought of something else....do you have mulitiple sound devices listed under the CDU/OPTIONS/SOUND chapter or just one?

At the question, is a reinstall necessary ? I said, yes. Because, the problem appears and I was unable to determine if I change something in the configuration or if I inadventerly change something.

So, after the reinstall, the altitude callouts disappears again without any change from me, I am already sure from that to continue the trouble shooting.

I also try to reset the panel state, re-load the panel state, and also to erase the .ini file to start from a new one, with no effect.

Concerning my computer, it is a brand new one from 6 months. Everything is working fine, FSX, X-Plane, War Thunder, DCS A-10 and some other games. I never had any problem of sound.

All the aircrafts I am using on FSX are working fine.

The problem is only related to the PMDG 777, and I have no idea why.

Concerning the sound option, I have :

- Speaker (Realtek high definition audio)

- Realtek digital output (Optical) (Realtek high definition audio)

- Realtek digital output (Realtek high definition audio)

Only the first one is giving me all sounds.

So whats the problem then?, if the first one works, use that.
