Prepar3d V2.0 entering beta

Recommended Posts

Looks as though DD designs has spilt the beans of P3D v2.0 entering beta - http://drzewiecki-design.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=3408&sid=4d1c2c64f0af0ebe15c7b8d991a2d268#3408

I also noticed that LM are asking for input on what should be seen on a startup screen - http://www.prepar3d.com/forum-5/?mingleforumaction=viewtopic&t=1541.11

Both are making a little giddy - looks like there's some good stuff just around the corner!

Guessing at least 1.5 yrs in testing. After all, P3D isnt an entertainment software package that can be riddled with bugs for an early release without serious consequences. Commercial flight trainers will not tolerate a FSX, we will fix it later, type release. professionalism.

I'd say before the end of this year.

I expect it Summer 2014.

As Reply #2 said, they cannot afford to let it go with ANY noticeable bugs. They have to do it PMDG style - test for as long as necessary until everything is found that can be found and then release.

How about an open beta period? Product not released for commercial training, but guaranteed rigorous bug reporting from the community.

Now the MSFT is out of the Flight Sim market completely I am predicting a modification of the agreement to allow entertainment use for P3D V2.0.  That will hopefully give us all a new sim.

I'm hoping November timeframe - that's based on their previous cycles and the beta to RTM timeframes of 1.2/3/4. Development for 2.0 was occurring in parallel with 1.4 based on LM and JV from FTX's comments last year.

Having a skim through the Prepar3d site they've confirmed better thread utilisation as well as DX11 support. Just those two items has the potential to make a world of difference! Throw in the startup screen to make it a nicer user experience and I think v2 will see a lot of happy simmers .... and I expect a painful amount of EULA discussion.

Well that ups the anticipation ante. Good news. Open beta would speed things along faster as you would find bugs really quick to show up but I doubt they would entertain that idea.

Hopefully the stupid dreaded EULA gets sorted out so that all speculations are shot down and make it clear. Either it is or is not supported for thefsx simmer community. Black and white.

I don't think you can simply extrapolate how long a 1.x beta takes and then equate that with the beta period of a 2.0 release. There is going to be a lot more ground the cover on the 2.0 beta test than a smaller changes made in a 1.x release.

Have they said if 2.0 will be 64-bit compatible?

Wouldint dx11 requirement be if would have to be 64 bit compatible? I mean dx11 sure as hell would use more than 4gb vas? No? Correct me if Im wrong please
