Is this what they made out of MSFlight?

Recommended Posts

Microsoft released a new "Flight Simulator".

It`s an arcade game, but it looks a bit like a downsized MSFlight.

I got the feeling that they tested cockpitless aircrafts and the new engine in MSFlight to prepare this new game... :P

Cold Alley is a beautiful, immersive, and fun game that features a great story and places you in the cockpit of a jet fighter.

"With an extensive single player campaign and a huge set of skirmish modes, the non-stop action will keep you on the edge of your seat! Travel back in time to experience the unwritten history of covert operations. Master over a dozen models of aircraft as you take part in the race for jet fighter domination," the app description reads.

Cold Alley runs for $6.99, which is an expensive yet appropriate price for an app that features unparalleled visuals, audio, and special effects including bump mapping, realistic atmospheric effects, volumetric clouds, sun glare, day and night transitions, and much more.

With Cold Alley, you can hone your skills with the campaign, Dogfight missions, Survival mode, Free for All, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, and Defend the Base. The developers also promise more game modes to come in the future. You can also take off and land on landing strips, as well as aircraft carriers with this game. In fact, you can soar through fully recreated cities with realistic weather and atmospheric effects. Truly an amazing immersive gameplay.

"Cold Alley is designed for players of all generations and skill levels, whether veteran or novice. Take full control, or leave the flying to the auto-pilot while you fire missiles and issue squadron commands!" the app description explains. Here are the key features of this game:

  1. Story driven campaign
  2. Multiple game modes
  3. Amazing 3D graphics
  4. Great collection of planes
  5. High detailed maps
  6. Varied gameplay mechanics
  7. Arcade and simulation controls
  8. Realistic sound and graphical effects

Don't think so, the lighting and reflections in the water look better than the flight/fsx engine is capable of (p3d 2.0 excepted, but it's not likely that engine either). And the terrain looks more like some of their recent xbox titles, tbh.

It's a Windows 8.1 app and costs only $6.99 so it must be worth a try. One screen-shot (not on Microsoft) even shows a Harrier in the hover.

I'm going to be honest, it does look good, but it's more for war than anything else, similar to Tom Clancy's Hawx 2. However, I'll be sticking to my Windows 7 OS as it still runs well, and many applications are backwards compatible.

How did you arrive at that conclusion from a bunch of stills? Looks cheesy to me and not better than Flight or a loaded FSX.....oh and that bug filled P3D V2.0...

Do you run FS's on a Commodore 64?
