AVSIM Forum Availability Issue

 

The race general rules state:

• The baton may be claimed and relinquished only through each team’s official public forum.
• Pilots must relinquish the baton upon completing a leg. Upon successfully completing a leg, the baton holder must post a message in the forum

In the past six months there have been a number of times when AVSIM forum users have had difficulty connecting which have been discussed in the forums here:

If the Avsim forums are not available to race participants at the time of baton exchange then we are going to start accumulating wait time. In addition to the lost time (which could turn out to be significant) there is the frustration and added stress of having to switch to an alternate forum, not to mention race tracking & leg validation by race administrators.

 

The Avsim forum availability issue was discussed by Avsim Race Team members on Teamspeak and there was concern that switching between forums for race tracking would cause unnecessary problems.  The consensus of the team was to propose the following modification of the general rule to the Race Committee:

• For this years race Team Avsim will use FS RTW Race Forum for the primary race thread for baton posts.
• The team will continue to use the AVSIM race forum for pilot reports (Pireps), screenshots, and general discussion, where a few minutes of lost time is not critical.

The team requests that the RTWR Race Committee, members of the other teams, and Avsim (Tom A) consider and provide feedback on this proposal.  If there are no objections then we would like the Race Committee to approve this modification to the general rule.
