X-Plane 10: Experimenting with art controls (Raleigh scattering)

Recommended Posts

gsagostinho, here are the 2 issues i'm having when using your flywithlua package that I dl'd from x-plane.org

1) the haze looks nice during the day but during dawn/dusk, it doesn't change color to match the horizon, so the blue really looks weird

2) the runway lights look way too big now

UPDATE: I figured the problem with #2, the cause of it is the fact that i'm using flydavs enhanced runway lights.txt, i reverted back to the original and it looks better now. Problem still exists with #1 though. Other than that, your lua scripts have made this look amazing! Thanks so much for this.

How do you get the top part of the sky to be a very deep dark blue? Like on pascal's shot on the 1st thread? Cause now the sky high above is a very white pale blue and I'd like to make it a deeper blue and the grass seems to be greener as well. Here's his shot.

Well, if you want to have a different look to your sim (darker sky, darker grass, more or less haze, etc.), then you need to edit those scripts to your liking. The script I added to that pack, named art_controls.lua, was not created by Pascal and will not give you the same look as his screenshots. If you are not satisfied with those settings, I recommend you to edit them manually, or also to have a look on Real Terra Haze, where you can change the sim to your liking and then save it.

On top of that, as I wrote before, I only use X-Plane 10.25 because 10.30 is a pig for my ATI. So I haven't tried my scripts with these betas and I can't help you with that. I know that the developers mentioned that some art controls might get changed, so it means that some settings for 10.25 may not work well with 10.30 (strange colours, strange effects, etc.). It might be that what is causing you the strange haze in the mountains during dusk and dawn, but In that case, you are on your own. Currently I have no interest in installing 10.30 on my machine again.

Here is how it is suppose to look (I am also using these sky colours here: http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=21803 ):

Version 10.30 b3 is now out

Some important fixes

Fixed the “white-out” bug – no more loss of visibility when near clouds.

The white band of fog in high-altitude views has been fixed.

There is now an official override for clouds (sim/operation/override/override_clouds) – setting this to one gets rid of all cloud puffs and white-out; it is no longer necessary to use art controls to replace X-Plane’s built-in clouds. Using this override saves CPU time that would have been spent building clouds and VRAM that would have been spent storing cloud meshes.

The “frame rate” data output now contains two fields: CPU and GPU.  These times show the time the CPU and GPU spent drawing one frame (on average) in milliseconds.

There is a new art control “hdr/debug_lights” that, when set to 1, will show you the cone area of all spill lights.  The cone area of the spill lights on screen is a good indicator of how much GPU power the spill light is taking. If your scenery or airplane is very slow at night in HDR mode, turn on light debugging and look for huge, wasteful spill light cones.  If you can make these smaller you may improve GPU performance.

Tom thanks for pointing those all out, with the release of 10.30b1, now with b3, are these art controls tweaks needed anymore? Since I know see haze and atmospheric scattering without these scripts. Should I stop using them altogether?

I have not had the time to look at it yet, but if it works without the scripts, nothing is better right.

So feel it a bit and decide what you think is the best solution for you and your flying experience.

Hi tom!

Hi

I just want to give a proposal to 10:30 a few things have changed , when I run in 1025 so I can see  my own aircraft strobe flashing in evening, and my own wing ice light. Now everything was  disappeared for me in 10.30 beta.I wish I did not fsx appearance when it comes to lighting, I hope I can be helpful with this.

On standby for the release of 10.30, you should not need art tweaking in 10.30, keeping the art script is redundant in beta version.

OK i understand, I returned back to 10.25 for moment and make little light tweaking 1.20 so now i got back my strobe and wing ice lights back. This is amazing in evening and night landing! Thanks for answer,

Does this apply for the water/light tweak files as well or just the art?

Think it's just atmospheric scattering, but 10.30 is performanced fixed, so messing with art control may reduce overall performance. It is of course just a theory still, as of 10.30 beta 6

I have the light working, just have to amend the code to suit it far better. Waiting for 10.30 final to get to work!

Light2015 v2.0 is out

This is a .lua script for tweaking lights in X-Plane 10

It only works with the "Fly With Lua" script that can be downloaded here http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=17468

Tested with 10.32

Not tested with Real Terra Haze

<<<  This will not work in X-Plane 9 >>>>
