still problems with runway and papilights

Recommended Posts

Hallo .....

I always have problems with the lights using Aerosoft-scenerys.

So I will test other settings step by step to fix them.

for example:

- outside cockpit all lights looks good...inside VC-cockpit no light

- flickering runway and papilights......and so on

....so let´s start!

1) This 2 files found in the DX10SceneryFixer-bgl-folder:

XXXXLightFieldTest.  XML-File
XXXXLightField.  XML-File

Questions: must I do something manual with this files.....copie in the FSX.cfg for example or something else ?

------------------------------------------------

2) This 5 files found in the DX10SceneryFixer-Effects-Folder:

ballast.  FX-file
fx_dx10field.  FX-File
fx_dx10fieldtest.  FX-File
fx_dx10shield.  FX-File
fx_dx10shieldtest.  FX-File

Question:  I copied this files in the FSX-Effects-Folder.......that`s correct?

--------------------------------------

3) When I add the ballast lights in my PMDG 737NGX, I can find it in:

G:\FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes\PMDG 737-800NGX WL\aircraft.cfg

[LIGHTS]
//Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landing, 6=taxi, 7=recognition, 8=wing, 9=logo, 10=cabin
light.0 = 4, 47.000, 0.0, 5.500, fx_PMDG_NGX_vclight
light.1 = 4, 45.500, 0.0, 4.500, fx_PMDG_NGX_vclight
light.2 = 1, 00.000, 0.0, 0.000, ballast

Question: that`s all correct?

---------------------------------------------

4) DX10 Compatible Lights: enabled or disabled?

----------------------------------------------

5) V2.0 Lightning Rules: activated or not ?

-------------------------------------------------

6) DX10 Compatible Reflections: enabled or disabled?

-------------------------------------------------

I never will play FSX without the DX10Fixer, but this problems make me crazy!

sorry for bad english....50 years old "child" fly arround the world ^^

thanks and .....so long

The instructions are at the end of chapter 9

So, if you have an airport that was grey at night and where the lights turn on and off at different viewing angles follow the following steps:

1. Copy the airport fields.zip file to a temporary directory

2. Unzip the airport fields.zip - this creates another bgl subdirectory - note there are 25K files so it will take several minutes!

3. Locate the placement file for your airport. The files are named XXXX_LightField.bgl where XXXX is the airport code.

4. Place the bgl in your airport scenery directory (or another scenery directory at a higher level if you prefer)

You don't need to do anything else.

So XXXX in this case is EDDK. The airports.zip file is in your bgl directory.

You don't need to add a ballast, you don't need to copy effects anywhere - provided you followed the correct installation procedure they will be there already

The other settings should have no impact

Note that two people have reported problems which I cannot reproduce - on their systems there seems as if there is an issue loading the lightfield. I have tested repeatedly at the same airports and cannot find any issues at all.

here it is:  NUM_LIGHTS=8

more Input:

I create another folder with the Lighftfield.bgl an put it in the scenerie-library (DX10 papi Lights)

When it is enabled, I can see all Lights all the time.

when this folder is disabled, flashing lights

What´s the problem: The lights only works, when I stop FSX and refresh the scenery-library.

so I think, the lightfield.bgl in airport-scenery don´t work.....no download, when airport comes in sight (10NM)

Yeah that is consistent with what was being reported by someone else, scenery refresh works and they reported that if you start at the destination - then switch to the start airport and fly to destination it works fine as well.

ok and so with the separate folder you see the blue light at 10nm out all fine?

...same flight again to EDDK

1. start FSX and I can see the blue light (Picture 1, first flight)

2. no bright blue light and flashing lights 10NM inboundpp airport (Picture 2, first flight)

3. low pass and I turn arround to EDDK

4. nothing happend, no bright blue light and only flashing airport-lights

5. I refresh scenery-library and the airport have a bright blue light and papilight are always on (Picture 3)

6. behind aircraft is a second bright blue light (Picture 4)

the original blue lights (Taxiways) are very dark, so I can see very late......but they are on (after refresh scenery)

I understand the scenery refresh, what I asked was in your post at 9:28 you said that placing the lightfield in a separate scenery area above the airport solved the problem ( at least I think that's what you said) ie without a scenery refresh. Is that correct and when you test with that setup do you see the blue light at 10 nm with working papi lights?

Is there another airport with a lightfield anywhere close that is responsible for the second blue light behind the aircraft?

Is aes enabled for the airport?

sorry....english is not my passion.

In school, nobody was able to interpret my english.

I hope you mean that:

papilights and the bright blue light don´t automatically activated  inboung 10NM the airport.

I must refresh scenery-library with the lightfield.bgl in the separate scenery area to activate papi and bright blue lights.

IIs there another airport with a lightfield anywhere close that is responsible for the second blue light behind the aircraft?

If the second light is another Airport.....I will check but I need some time for it.

Is aes enabled for the airport?

Yes....all my Aerosoft-Airport have activated AES

Well I have managed to break both my FSX setups and they now operate just as you describe - i.e the light field now doesn't load as I approach from outside 10nm during the day whereas previously it did. This causes the PAPI to appear according to whether there is another light in view - so generally ok from outside as you can see the aircraft navigation lights, but unreliable in VC unless there is an AI aircraft nearby.

I am presently restoring windows prior to a full reinstallation of FSX to try and determine the cause.
