Using David Clark headset on computer... is this possible

Since everybody including myself is really pleased with the audio quality, and almost universally displeased with the fact that they're all breaking in the same place after the warrantee period + 1 day, I got sick and tired of spending half 100 bucks on… Let's face it A poorly built(probably not much worse than the bottom rung of headsets) medium performance headset....I want something with guts and street...ER....sky cred.

 

I went on eBay and bought a real damned thing, a David Clark H10-76 Aviation Headset for parts , $17.00 + USPS shipping; They are built like a brick sh&t-house, and have been the de facto headset for many of our military aircraft and ground crews, not to mention the real life civilian GA aviators who have been using DSs H-10 series headsets for almost a fifty year track record of acclaim. You saw the same headset in the chopper shots in "Jurrasic World".

 

Option #1 I have tested the speakers against the speakers in the Plantronics(PT) the PTs win...so I removed the faceplate nibbed and drilled out the plastic support to fit inside the DCs...Problem?...the DCs are MONO with two leads(red/White) for the mic(function and impedance untested as yet), black and green for the speakers...uhohhhh not enough connections...BUT...THERE IS A COMMON SHIELD throughout. Could I not use the shield as a common Gnd, then use the existing black and green for left and right speaker drivers? Or, will I rue the loss of shielding, which was previously properly isolating the ear speakers and mic from spurious RF?

 

I think I am on the right path, using the existing wiring reconfigured as above.

 

Second option..Gut the existing wiring and use the salvaged USB BOARD from the rotten a$s build quality/pretty damned nice sound quality (PTs) , figuring out potential existing mic impedance mis-matches and converting the whole sha-bang to a USB headset.

 

Any comments or suggestions will be appreciated.
