FS9 on Windows 8.1

Recommended Posts

HI all!

I am about to do a bootcamp to my 2013 iMac and they will only allow me to put windows 8.1 on it and was wondering if i would be able to put my FS9 on it. I heard many people in forums saying this will not be possible but i really hope this isnt the case as i love this sim and have £100s of addons for it!

Please let me know!!!!!!!

Cheers :)

FSX, FS9, XPlane 10, and FlightGear all work on one of my test machines running Windows 8.1 Professional.

I had FS9 running on 8 and then upgraded to 8.1.  Big mistake.  I started getting CTD's frequently.  I knew there was no future in it so I actually did a refresh and got the system to roll back to 8.  I reloaded everything and it works great again.  While I'm pretty confident this was an isolated situation, I can't honestly recommend 8.1 due to my experience.  Windows 8 and 8.1 were a bad idea in general.  You can't appreciate how bad until you have lived with them for awhile.  No wonder PC sales are in the tank.

I know the iFly 737 does not work on win 8. Not sure about 8.1 though. Just a heads up.

Installed FS2004 on a new computer with Windows 8.1 and it works just fine. The only oddity noted was with Reality XP FLT and FLN gauges. They function well, but cause very short freeze-ups from time to time.

I've just installed FS9 on a Win 8.1 Pro 64 bit system just to see what happens. Everything seems to work perfectly except when I choose an aircraft, the small preview window is just black. Other than that, it works fine.

Anyone else running FS9 on Windows 8.1?  I am thinking of migrating back and was curious if it is going to work without any problems?
