First goto the rendering menu dial everything down and slowly work your way up........

After you are happy Google "Raliegh Scattering" for X-Plane.....

Pretend you just bought FSX and it's 2006. You can't possibly max everything out - and nowadays a i7 920 is pretty dated.

Try textures normal no HDR, 4x AA, 16AF , cloud puffs 20%.. There's a getting started guide at the top if this forum.

1st things 1st.

Have you upgraded to 10.25 yet ??

Are you still in Beta mode ??

Get it working before trying all the things mentioned.

Purchased XP 10 3 months ago, bought some small GA acrft and the 757-777 and loaded a bunch of scenery which is so much easier to add or remove compared to MSFS, and although it does not have all the bells and whistles of my FS9, it does have a lot of other stuff to offer, and given a chance I bet you will get hooked, I am, and although I have thousands invested in FS9, I have not been back since Jan. Give it a month and play around w/ it, you will find a new excitement, a new sim and a lot of fun.

P.S. This is not the XP of past, it is new and getting better, and I have been simming since MSFS 2000 and 13,000 hours of flying.

The amount of high quality freeware (and donationware) is truly amazing. I run a XPX live stream at twitch.tv and people ask quite often which addons I use to make the sim look so realistic. They are quite surprised most of the time when I tell them, that my only payware is 7,95$ (UrbanMAXX 3D) and 19,99$ (MaxxFX).

The OP's PC though, might have a hard time running XPX with all the nice things like HDR, atmospheric scattering, etc.

I should have mentioned almost all of my scenery was free stuff and very good. I have not invested anywhere near what I would have invested w/ FSX to get what I have currently. I have had no CTD yet and the sim has so much you can tinker with, I am glad I did the research before making a decision between XP and PD3, both are good but I do not regret at all my current direction. I still love my FS9 but have not been on it now since getting XP 10. I have a good computer but I may be upgrading so I can really burn XP the way it was met. I can say even w/ sliders down it is better then FSX stock by a mile. The 64 bit really makes a difference.

I think to be honest that you may have a hard time getting the best of XP10 with your setup. As mentioned before Simheavens sceneries are a good upgrade to the default. I think World2XPlane has gone one better than OSM2XP at this stage, they essentially do the same thing, use OpenStreetMap data to generate autogen but I think World2XPlane has the edge. The combination of World2XPlane and G2XPL has recently prompted me to uninstall both FSX and P3d 2.2 as they no longer came anywhere close to what X-Plane has to offer dare I say it :Nail Biting: . If Simheaven don't have your area ready, look into G2XPL which allows for better resolution photoscenery than Simheaven offers but you'll need a lot of drivespace for it. I highly recommend SkyMaxxPro also. The thing that will hold you back in all this is your system though I'm sorry to say. You will have to make choices to accomodate its limitations.

Hello, I started with unrealistically high expectations. I have a Intel i7 x980 overclocked to 4.2mhz. I found that even with that and a GTX 690 GPU the game just barely hit 13fps in the denser scenery areas. So, lower your expectations because with your rig you'll never get the game to run smoothly at the higher settings. Just the facts, mam.

You would need to generate at least 4.8mhz with a super-duper GPU to run SMOOTHLY at the higher game settings. (same with FSX)

I recently built a computer using an i7-4770 processor (not overclockable - but turbo-boost runs it up to 3.9 - with hyperthread, it shows as an 8 core processor), an ASUS MB with 16 GB of 1600 DRAM, and a Gigabyte GTX-770 GPU.  I do not use SSD.  With this, I have to be careful about graphic settings in XPX.  Sometimes, increasing the demands will actually cause FRs to increase.  I have heard that the extra load on the CPU will cause the turbo-boost to increase, thereby increasing the production of all components.  At any rate, I cannot open up all settings to max without dumping the FRs into the middle teens.  It takes a lot to run these animals.  By the way this is on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit OS.
