OpusFSI Release

Recommended Posts

Progress continues in the OpusFSI development which will be released later on in the year.

New Camera Management and Editing

We have changed the way camera views are managed and edited, separating the Management and Editing functions in two separate dialogs.

The idea being when you click on the Cameras option you will be faced with the Camera Management dialog. This dialog will allow you to view all cameras, change their listed order, restrict the list to a specific set of assigned aircraft, select a camera for editing, select a camera for cloning, or add a completely new camera.

Only when you opt to edit, clone, or add a new camera will the dialog be replaced with the Camera Editing dialog. This dialog has all the usual options for defining the view mode, assigning aircraft types, setting the view options, changing the eye point, changing the zoom, configuring DHM and AHM etc.

New Camera Editing

We have added a Live Camera Control button, enabled whenever the LCC feature is enabled within the OpusFSI Configuration. This new feature can be used to edit the camera's eye point using the normal LCC functions, including any assigned 6-axis Gamepad controller.

This option should greatly simplify camera editing.

When the LCC button is pressed the Camera Edit dialog is automatically hidden and the small footprint LCC dialog is displayed. You are then able to use the LCC eye point movement functions via either the LCC dialog's arrow keys, assigned keyboard keys, or any assigned joystick controls. This includes the use of your assigned 6-axis Gamepad controller.

To finish editing the camera view simply press the Set Camera button on the LCC dialog, or use your assigned Set Camera key sequence, or your assigned Gamepad control. The Set Camera button text has been highlighted in green on the LCC dialog to remind the user of this function. To abort or cancel the LCC edit simply click on the 'X' to close the small LCC dialog.

Once the LCC editing has been finished the Camera Edit dialog is redisplayed showing any changes to the camera's eye point in the XYZ and PBY boxes.

Click OK to accept the changes and return to the Camera Management dialog.

Using the LCC editing functions in conjunction with assigned LCC control keys or better still a 6-axis Gamepad controller also allows all camera editing to be undertaken with the simulator maximised or placed in full screen mode. When finished editing simply minimise the simulator or return the simulator's display back to its windowed mode footprint. You can then complete the edit process using the Camera Edit and Management dialogs.

Please note, all LCC functions are local so this new feature cannot be used to edit cameras on networked client systems.

I will post the new look Camera Management, Camera Editing, and LCC dialogs below.

We will be looking to post the first OpusFSI Beta soon to allow licensed OpusFSX users to try out the new Camera Management and Editing functions. Soon to be followed by the upgraded LWA weather map feature.

Intelligent Turbulence Control ...

We are also looking at improving the intelligence of the DHM turbulence, Bump Aircraft turbulence, and ButtKicker audio control when the Opus LWE is not in use. Allowing users to make full use of the excellent RW DHM turbulence and coordinated ButtKicker audio no matter what source of weather is used.

The first OpusFSI Beta Version 4.00.x software has been posted, available via the hyperlink at the bottom of our Downloads webpage. These betas are available to all licensed OpusFSX users and will remain so until just before the initial release of the OpusFSI upgrade.

Details regarding our progress and the beta testing can be found on out main SimForums OpusFSI Progress and OpusFSI Beta 4.00.x topics.

At present we are testing the new Live Camera Management and Editing interface along with the new LWA Weather Maps.

Regards

Stephen :-)

You're welcome, please install in c:\OpusFSI, or on your preferred drive.

If you can keep track of the posts on SimForums as I sometimes don't have time to update the posts here.

Remember your FSXSERVER.CAM file is compatible, so copy it across along with your FSXSERVER.CMD file. You will need an Internet connection for licensing validation checks.

OpusFSI Beta Version 4.00.4 has been posted ...

The LWA Weather Map data is now stored in four separate data files (viz. WMapHdr.dat, WMapData.dat, WMapPntsdat, and WMapStns.dat) in the x:\OpusFSI\Weather folder. File generation and access has been speeded up considerably minimising any possible interference with the simulator's operation.

The LWA Weather Map data files are now generated only when the weather is first updated with the aircraft on the ground or whenever there are any OpusFSI client systems connected. Otherwise all weather map data is updated directly using memory structures without any disk access.

The 'Enable Live Weather Map Data' option has been removed from the OpusFSI Configure dialog.

Don't forget to uninstall OpusFSI first.

Regards

Stephen

Coming Next ...

We are looking at improving the efficiency of the GRIB decoding process, speeding up the Decoding and Reading phases. Probably not to the same extent as above as it involves deciphering a great deal of information in the CSV files, but we are hopeful. We are also making plans to provide an option to offload a large part of the LWE onto a client system, including all downloads, GRIB decoding, etc.. Early stages yet but looks promising, this will be implemented most likely after the release of OpusFSI.

Improved OpusFSI Beta Version 4.00.7 posted with destination, alternates, en-route flight plan points and route overlaid onto the weather map.

Coming next, the user specified Upper Level weather map data, and the TCU/CB map symbols. We are also looking into the Live Traffic option again with the view of showing multiplayer and conflicting or relevant AI traffic on the map.

OpusFSI Beta Version 4.00.8 has been posted.

If the 'Keep Aircraft in Centre' or 'Keep Aircraft on Map' options are set then the aircraft will always be displayed and if required the map repositioned after any zoom change or resize.

The LWA weather map's size and screen position are now preserved and restored next time the LWA weather map is displayed.

Added CB and TCU warnings in the form of red and orange exclamation marks to the LWA weather maps, shown only when the Surface Precipitation and Low Level Cloud Cover data is overlaid and at specific zoom levels.

Added Upper Level data overlays to LWA weather maps. The wind arrows will now show the Cruise Level winds if any cruise data types are selected, and the Upper Level winds if any upper level data types are selected.

N.B. The Upper Level altitude 'Update' button will only work if the weather and GRIB data have been updated.

The Upper Level altitude updates are now synchronised across all connected client systems.

Regrouped the LWA weather map data type to group all temperatures, winds, and turbulence options together allowing the surface, cruise, and upper level data to be compared easily.

The LWA Information box now groups and shows the surface, upper level, and Cruise level, wind, turbulence, and temperature data for easy comparison.

Hi Stephen...I am confused. Does OPUS FSI need a completely different licence from OPUS FSX? I removed OPUS FSX and now when I run OPUS FSI it can only do so in 'demo' mode.

The OpusFSI Beta uses and checks your current OpusFSX licence, also validates its license over the Internet.

So you must first re-install OpusFSX into your c:\OpusFSX folder (or whatever drive you have used), you will need the c:\Opus Software folder containing the OpusFSX.lic file.

Then you can install the OpusFSI Beta into a separate c:\OpusFSI folder.

Stephen

P.S.

The OpusFSI Beta has been made available to all current licensed OpusFSX users, hence it only needs your OpusFSX license and a decent Internet connection. Just make sure you install it in a separate OpusFSI folder.

OpusFSI Beta Version 4.00.9 has been posted.

The weather and flight plan dialog options are now saved at the appropriate time.

Corrected a problem with the Camera Management's Clone and Add options, these options will no longer add the cloned or new camera view when the edit session is cancelled. All cloned cameras now have a © label appended to their cloned name.

The LWA Weather Map will no longer show any cruise or upper level data if none exists, previous versions would have shown surface data which can be confusing. The LWA information box will append the messages 'No Cruise Altitude' and/or 'No Upper Level Data' to indicate likely problems or warnings.

Dynamic Wind Control (DWC) is now disabled in any gusting surface wind layer.

A quick question here, I'm wanting to finally purchase Opus... but with FSI on the horizon I want to know if I'd have to purchase FSI again after I've already purchase normal OpusFSX or if its a one license fits all model for the future?

Thanks a ton for the great work on this product!

Hi Ken

There will be a discounted upgrade option for OpusFSI if you have purchased OpusFSX.

We currently plan to release OpusFSI in August or September and in the meantime the OpusFSI Beta will be available to all OpusFSX users.

OpusFSI is the first paid upgrade we have produced in order to cover development costs. We envisage future upgrades for the next couple of years will be free of charge.

Cheryl
