Setting up NE for the first time?

this is the frequently asked section for Night Environment

  • I am running global and vector - will NE work with all of this?
    • Yes it will,

with vector and global you actually get even better results with NE

simply because we use real world data to place our lights

fsx doesn’t have all this current information in its DB

with vector and global this data is available

and NE lighting becomes even better

since all light now appear on roads

with fsx only, some lights don’t have road under them

  • Will I get double lighting with Vector/Global enabled?
    • The answer is No,

once Night Environment is activated over any Vector/Global enabled region

It automatically disables Vector/Global lighting for the active region

While maintaining Vector/Global lights active in uncovered regions

Once NE is deactivated; Vector/Global lights will become active

No special configuration or user input required for this to take place

Hi Mark; the answer is Yes

but we haven’t completed covering the globe yet

due to the complexity of producing a region; these are country base packages

in some cases we bundle few together; it varies by the regions size we are covering

for example, Germany was packed as a single product due to the size of the region and the final project

on the other hand; Belgium, Netherlands and Luxemburg were all bundled into one product  we named BeNeLux

as for Ultimate terrain; same as Vector/Global goes

we are very friendly and play along nicely with everyone;

there's isn’t an addon yet that’s been found incompatible as of writing these words

Hi Chris,

Awesome job! This is THE PRODUCT I was long waiting for. Aesthetically it is extremely pleasing but technically I am getting OOMs every time when I had all the layers on. Is there anyway I can avoid the OOMs? Will it perform better in P3D?

Why there is 2-4 different layers of lights….can you explain?

Cheers,

Ronnie

Hi Ronnie and thank you for your kind words and for posting in our FAQ section

To answer some of your questions; i will start with OOM issue

It is not specifically NE that’s causing your OOM’s but rather contributing to the condition

Each add-on you turn on in during your flight adds its own usage to the global memory bank

This bank is made of theoretically 4GB; that’s it

It’s the first 4GB the system recognized that’s your bank

You can have 16GB available; any 32bit application can only see the first 4GB

Fortunately for night flight; there are many add-ons and scenery you can deactivate

As these aren’t apparent at night anyway and can be turned off to better performance

There is a nice tool called SimStarter I highly recommend using

The tool allows you to launch FSX with a preconfigured  custom profile (10 profiles you can set)

I create my custom night profile that doesn’t include unnecessary scenery and addons

SimStarter can be found here http://aviation.pero-online.de/

You should have read the manual carefully

You should never have all layers turned on at once

This is probably the reason your running into OOM’s

“Base” folder is required to be active; whenever folder  1,2 or 3 are active

inside Levels 1-3 folders are our DB for lights instructions our model will use

when base folder is turned on along with any one of Level 1-3

light instructions will be performed based on the DB in the level folder, if base is on but 1-3 are off

no lights will be turned on; since instructions DB are turned off

Be advised! The level do not compound over each other

Level 3 has 100% instructions

Level 2 has 50% off level 3

Level 1 has 50% off level 2

Do not check levels 1-3 along with each other; only with base and or level 0

“Level 0” only hold the Nightmap textures, aka "ground Splash"

you can select to work with NE nightmap without our 3D lights

turn on only level 0, or in any combination with any of the levels 1-3

Note that NE Night Map (level 0) doesn’t change with the different levels of intensity (1-3)

you can also select to run the 3D lights without our ground splash (level 0 off)

this will allow any other night map to be active; be it default fsx or third party PR nightmap

either way you have great flexibility with NE to completely customize night lighting to your preference

in regards to NE's performance in P3D

we are expecting a much improved performance under P3D v2.3 and on

the issue we had was resolved and further optimized for enhanced performance

Yes, you can expect a big improvement for NE Series with P3D v2.3

Hi Graham
the suggested setting with Steve's DX10 Fixer are as follows
(be advised settings location may slightly change since we last documented these)

set bloom sliders to 60% to gain about 25% in performance under DX10

for more in depth analysis and advance setting guidelines
i suggest consulting Neptune’s thread

I have strong lags with NE -Germany and P3D 2.4. I can't even land. The lag always come into existence during the landing approach . With the Dash ( which further accelerates ), it is impossible to land. The hole Simulator stands still for a Second and then continues.

My system runs clean and nice...

I uninstalled NE-G now...

Just for Info:

I'd look into reducing some sliders to remedy this
the possibilities are virtually endless to what is causing this
it is not NE per say; as no issues have been reported so far
by the sounds of it; you might be pushing your sim to its limits with your current settings

does this happen when you run on level 1 as well?
