Computer Help (i7-2600 vs. i5-4440)

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am currently looking to buy a computer for flight simulator X.

At this point, I am looking at 2 desktops : a Dell i3847-5077BK, which has the i5-4440 3.1GHZ processor (HD 4600 graphics), 8GB of RAM, 1TB HDD and Windows 7 Home Premium - and add the EVGA GT 620 2048MB Video Card.

Or, I could get this used desktop with the i7-2600 3.4GHZ processor with the Nvidia GT 405 video card.

Here is the link to the Dell : http://www.microcenter.com/product/427790/Inspiron_3000_Desktop_Computer

Here is the link to the second computer, an HP : http://cnj.craigslist.org/sys/4488144851.html

What is your opinion on which computer to get?

Thank you!

Hi, and welcome.

Unfortunately none of those two rigs are good enough. You need a better graphics card (those are entry level ones, not gaming cards)

I5 4670K CPU................... $ 189.99

Z97 board...................... $ 114.99

GTX750 ........................ $ 119.99

CX430 PSU...................... $  54.99

8GB RAM ....................... $  89.99

Mid Tower Case................. $  57.99

Hard Drive .....................$  59.99

Total ..........................$ 687.93

You may also want to pick a CPU cooler: http://www.microcenter.com/product/373900/Hyper_212_EVO_Universal_CPU_Cooler

Thank you for the reply and information!

Unfortunately, I have quite a small budget of around 500-600 dollars. Do you think there is a pc to build in that budget that would be good for fsx? I am not looking to run it on ultra high graphics, just somewhere in the medium high-high range.

Get used i2500k or i5 3570k desktop off craiglist be good option or build it with parts listed above. One thing do not bother with AMD CPU for fax.

Might save a few bucks at newegg maybe, but that's about as cheap as it gets. You really don't want to skimp much more in things like the case and the PSU.

Thank you for the help! Yeah, I considered AMD before but I saw that it was terrible with FSX.

Thanks so much! I guess I'll stick with that :) Also, for the graphics card, is there a good one with the VGA port as well?

Where are you situated? I've got a perfectly good CM Storm Sniper case and living in a condo, it is taking up valuable space. If you are within reasonable courier distance, it might pay you to do me a favour and pay a courier and take it off my hands. It comes with some fans and I only changed because it would not take my cooler rad.

The I5 4670K is overclockable, but you would need a different motherboard to overclock, like the one I suggested initially. Just to make sure you're aware of that

Ah, ok. Thanks! Should I get the 4590S with the H81 or the 4670K with the Z97?

I suggested a 750 based on his budget, also because that's a newer Maxwell technology, much more efficient. A 660 would also require a more powerful PSU probably
