Timeframe for P3d version of VRS TacPack confirmed

Recommended Posts

http://forums.vrsimulations.com/forums/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=12730&p=92881#p92880

In "several months", VRS plans to release  a "consumer" version of TacPack for P3d2, which allows Tacpack-enabled aircraft (and potentially naval vessels) to have working weapon systems, such as guns, missiles and bombs. There has been much talk about this recently, but this is the first post by VRS stating a timeframe. The FSX version of TacPack is incompatible with DX10, even with using the DX10Fixer, so this is welcome news.

I can only assume so, since the developer did not explicitly state that. But it is a safe assumption because all the rest of the non-VRS TacPack enabled aircraft already run under P3d2 but without functioning weapons.

VRS is really one of the last P3d "holdouts" of the 3rd party developers with products in active development.

It is great to continue to see most of the developers developing for the future.

When will the SuperBug be ready for P3D ... same time as TacPk?

Will an upgrade from our FSX version be possible or is it a new purchase only?

What determines if an Aircraft is "Tacpack en-abled"?

TacPack is based on a DLL that allows FSX aircraft to fire and guide weapons that can damage other aircraft, ships, ground vehicles and certain buildings. The "enabling" is usually done by the aircraft's author. Dino Cattaeno's aircraft are TacPack enabled as is IRIS A-10 Warthog Driver among others. VRS also sells the FA-18 Superbug.

Is there also a DLL or something similar that allows for ground damage? I assume with all my Orbx regions installed, I can't target a building and expect an explosion/damage. It seems like whole new regions could be developed for conflicts with landmass that will show damage.  (It's like Falcon 4.0 meets P3D, but on a global scale. Very exciting).

No. People have been inquiring about Tacpack integration on the A2A forums, but my impression of A2A is that they are a small shop and they like to concentrate on a few products that border on perfection.

VRS provides specific ground targets, such as SAM missile sites that can be destroyed. TacPack users have used ORBX BOB ( a 1st person simobject which is invisible) as a targeting mechanism for other buildings:
