Orbx Rocky Mountains Leg 6 – Revelstoke to Penticton

This leg of the Rocky Mountain tour will take us from Revelstoke to Penticton flying into the sunny and dry Okanagan region of British Columbia.

Taking off from Revelstoke we initially proceed up the Columbia river, then turn left at the first valley following the Trans-Canada highway 1 to Three Valley Lake, where the highway turns to the northwest, our route will proceed south down the valley toward Mabel Lake and our first landing at Mabel Lake CBF9. From Mabel Lake we will follow the Shuswap River Valley around the Enderby Cliffs Protected Area, then follow the valley leading to Salmon Arm CZAM.   Departing Salmon Arm to the north, we fly towards the lake, then turn east, then south around Mt Ida, following the valley that will lead us to Vernon CYVK.  Departing Vernon, fly southeast down the inlet and start climbing. Make for the stream valley across the lake and by following it you will be able to climb above the nearby terrain.  Once at 7000 feet you should be fine.  The next airfield is Douglas Lake CAL3.   Departing Douglas Lake we fly south east back towards Okanagan Lake, following highway 97 down to the lake and over Peachland whose lights will become visible at dusk.  Fly down the lake to the Naramata NDB (UNT 312.00), then turn to heading 162 for the 8 mile final to Penticton CYYF.  The airfield is brightly lit at night and easy to find.

This is a relatively easy leg with valleys connecting most of the airfields.  The A2A accusim Cessna 172 or Cherokee 180 are excellent choices for this leg, but you are free to choose any GA aircraft you please. Cruise speed will be around 100 – 110 knts.

I will be flying the A2A Cherokee ZK-FSP. This beautiful New Zealand paint is by that gent who calls himself Ron Attwood and available here.

Yes it is a 1954 Fairey Gannet. Hard to believe that it is based here in WI - N752XT .  Would've thought it would be based in England for sure. So ungainly looking it has it's own beauty to it.  :P It has got to be a maintenance nightmare! Here's a video

Day 2 of EAA's Airventure over, sunburned and sore as heck, can barely move.. A day of rest then heading back down for the final day 3.

Aah the Fairy Gannet. As a kid I thought it was a marvellous looking plane. Character, will some added character.
