Rob A.'s P3DV2.3 settings - WOW

Recommended Posts

My PC is sweating a bit when I use those settings. Where should I start adjusting? Are there some settings that are recommended lowering before others?

Thanks,

Espen

I respect Rob Ainscough's contributions to Avsim  and the P3d forum but looking at some of the settings here it does cause me to pause....perhaps this is an older settings list from him?  Unless I am missing something it looks like he's not running any antialiasing and only 8x Anisotropic filtering...with a Titan; soon to be three of them?

These are older settings Rob used during beta testing. A more comprehesive list of more recent 2.3 settings can be found here (scroll down)

I have many different sets of settings ... they always evolve, but I share what I use in case they can help others.  Everyone's mileage will vary as will aircraft and add-ons.

I'm currently working SLI and a single 4K (3840 x 2160) monitor ... unfortunately SLI isn't doing much for me at this point in time ... I'm waiting for the next nVidia driver release and will see how those work.

Thanks Rob!!

Welcome, this is exactly why I share them ... they will not work for everyone, no silver bullet, but if they help some, then great.

Cheers, Rob.

Guys I thought NI wasnt needed anymore, but I see rob has some settings on his page. If I use NI should I disable the AA in p3d like in FSX

Michael,

Thanks for steering me to the newer version of Rob's tweaks. I did not see them when I used the beta set.

I was more than a bit hesitant to try the newest version as, although I have a pretty good setup, it is not in the same league as Rob's!!  Anyway, they are even better than the beta's and my system is handling it OK - in the upper 20's to mid 30's FPS and is very smooth. Still -- WOW! Always learning and tweaking :P

If I dont use 4x sparse grid sampling I get horrible shimmering, I dont know how people run without inspector.

I dont know how people run without inspector.

FXAA will remove most of the shimmering and is much better on FPS ... but it's really dependent on your resolution and if you use wide view and the size of your monitor/TV ... wide view would tend to increase the shimmers and add AA issues.

In P3D v2.3 I'm running without inspector.  I've moved on to 3840 x 2160 resolution now so my need for AA has been reduced ... I don't use FXAA nor SGSS AA anymore, just MSAA 4X in P3D and don't use NI at all.

But like I said, my settings (many of them) have changed as I progress with P3D versions and even nVidia driver versions.  And I'm sure they'll change again when nVidia release new drivers.

Cheers, Rob.

Im not using wide view, maybe my 55" tv is the problem. Im running in 1920 x 1080 @ 60 htz with a gtx780. Fxaa didnt give me any results so I went back to inspector. I wished I could find a happy medium because after installing ASN today the slightest weather brings my machine to its knees. Ive done all of the res tweaks I know to do, clouds at 512 in rex and shadows 512 in the config.

I've had the opposite.  I am not using NI. No FXAA, 8x MSAA, 16x AF, shadows mid, no ground shadows.

2560x1440, my PC specs are in my profile
