FSX Crashes when switching windows

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I am having a problem with my FSX when I change windows. While running FSX in windowed mode, if i switch to another application like REX weather generator or fuel loader, when I switch back to FSX, the controls are stuck and FSX eventually crashes. The aircraft engines are still running and the plane is still flying, but the view is stuck. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Just a guess, but in my experience, having FSX open while opening or leaving open additional programs (for me it is usually ADE and a couple of web browser tabs as I adjust, fix, and update airports) quickly fills my computer's memory and FSX will lock up and/or crash.

My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

Hi guys, thanks for replying. I am running FSX on windows 8 64bit. When running fsx, I usually have tabs such as fuel planner for Airbus x extended open and REX weather generator tab. If I need to load the fuel or change the weather, this is when the issue happens. I am running 8GB of ram and have expanded virtual memory to three times the ram because I have a lot of Hard drive space to use, so this shouldn't be an issue.

Your page file will not save you from these types of crashes. Lots of RAM in your computer is pretty useless with FSX and FSX addons. FSX is a 32 bit application and can only use 4GB's of virtual address space (VAS) and, when it runs out, fsx will freeze or crash. FSX does not work well with setting your minimum and maximum in the page file and System Managed Size works the best.

Hi firehawk 44, this issue started before I set the virtual ram. I previously had this issue on another computer that was running the same windows version and flight simulator. I think it might have something to do with the Airbus X extended because it usually happens when I am flying this plane.

You should download and run AppCrashView (see AVSIM CTD Guide located to the right of this forum under Hot Spots for link). Perhaps it will provide another clue as to what might have caused your freeze.
