P3D Development Status Thread [Updated 12SEP14]

Recommended Posts

Captains,

This thread replaces the previous version, dated April 2014.  It includes updated information and is the only source of information related to the development of PMDG products for P3D.  This thread is designed to prevent the need for repetitive "what about" questions in unrelated threads.  If the information is not yet provided in this thread, then it is not yet available and will not be discussed in other, non-related threads by PMDG staff.

(Translation: Please do not hijack unrelated threads... your question will not be answered by PMDG staff if it is unrelated to the thread!)

This thread will provide you with factual information related to PMDG's efforts to release products compatible with the Lockheed Martin Prepar3d (P3d) platform.

This thread will continue be updated from time-to-time as more information becomes available.

Licensing Update:

==============

PMDG have finalized a licensing agreement with our licensing partners that will allow PMDG products to appear on the P3D platform.  We will initially be offering versions of our simulation products that are licensed to be used for general study and self-education purposes.  We will follow those offerings at a later date with products that are licensed specifically for use within training departments and the training environment.

Users who participate via Commercial/Enterprise customers with qualified training programs can learn about the use of PMDG's products via their training department.

General Status:

============

PMDG are planning release of the following products for use with the Lockheed Martin Prepar3d platform:

PMDG 747-400v2.0 for P3D

PMDG 777 Series for P3D

PMDG 737NGX Series for P3D

(The order in which products are listed here does not reflect their release timeline...)

Release of the PMDG BAe JS4100 for P3D and new products being developed under the PMDG Classics product line are also under consideration for release as P3D titles.

PMDG does not intend to release any of our legacy products such as the PMDG MD-11 or PMDG 747-400X into the P3D platform.

Products that enter development following the PMDG 747-400 v2.0 will be considered on a case-by-case basis depending upon their marketability on the P3D platform.

Licensing and Use:

===============

Unlike products developed on the Microsoft Flight Simulator X (FSX) platform, products on the P3D platform will be offered with a range of licensing options.  These options will initially include only a General Study, Education/Academic-STEM and Familiarization licensing model but will eventually expand to include licensing models to cover training, classroom training and training center/airline site license versions.

Customer Licensing for General and Personal Training licenses will be handled directly through PMDG's current eCommerce portal.  All other licensing options will be handled on customer-specific non-public portals.

Costs for licensing of P3D based products will vary based upon the license model chosen and the desired use.  This will enable PMDG customers to choose a range of cost options based upon their needs and license requirements, from Home Entertainment (using FSX) up through PMDG Certified Training Solutions customized for specific airline customers.

TRAINING CENTER & AIRLINE CUSTOMIZATION:

=======================================

Training Centers and Airline customers will be able to purchase a general version of a PMDG product for P3D, or alternately PMDG can create a private version that tailors the aircraft equipment options to match the customer fleet.  This version can be made available only to designated crew members through a private portal.  (Please contact us directly via our site for more information on customization.)

Note: Training enabled licenses depend upon certification from Boeing and licensing by same.  This product line is not yet available.

ETA:

====

Our first product for release on the Lockheed Martin P3D platform is currently in development and is anticipated for release sometime during 4Q14/1Q15.

We currently anticipate that the PMDG 777-200LR/F will be the first product released for use with P3D.  All other PMDG products for P3D will follow later.

PRICING:

=======

Pricing for PMDG's new line of P3D products will vary depending upon license type and intended use.  Airline customers are encouraged to contact PMDG directly in order that we can effectively recommend a solution to minimize direct and recurring costs.

Dont be so negative Calvin. lol

This is fantastic news.  P3D does a great job now in managing the VAS alot better. They wont be eliminated but at least they are greatly reduced even with a PMDG aircraft.

Its amazing what gets accomplished when all you have to do is just change the wording to what "entertainment use" was.  Finally someone gets it, that we are participating in General Study and Self Education purposes. We have been doing it for years and years.  "entertainment use" was extremely overrated and I thank you Rob and your team to get it done. Much appreciated. Thats what our hobby entails. The ability to bring it up from another level from "entertainment use gaming" to something thats way more meaningful in trying to have a realistic simulator at home that is not only fun, but teaches and becomes an incredible learning experience.

Thanks again.

Glad things are sorted out. One question, when the 777LRX comes out on Prepar3Dv2.x, will it be based on SP1c?

Thanks for that update!

The most interesting part is the change to the new "PMDG soon" now called "4QXY/1QXY". Sounds a lot better as the old "soon" again and again  :P  :lol:  ^_^

I imagine, though I may be wrong that these dates too could be pretty easy to meet. I don't see a huge difference with how models now act between FSX and P3D, so at least what we have going for us is that they don't have to deal with uncharted territory to make their addons work. Nice to see some interest from PMDG, and happy to hear the 777 will be first up. Bought it for FSX right before I switched to P3D and miss using PMDG products.

Yes- versions are always moving forward...  We wouldn't go back to an old version.  LOL

I assume that the licensing options being offered by PMDG will be related to the version of P3D used?

Thanks, Bruce.

Thanks for the update PMDG.  Really miss the 737 and 777 as I exclusively use P3Dv2.3 now.  Looking forward to the next update......
