Terrain will not load, stuck at 6% in P3D

Recommended Posts

Well, I remember this problem from FSX and for whatever reason, where it is again in P3D v2.3 -- terrain loading stuck at 6%.

I have added every possible folder exclusion imagineable for Nortons Internet Security and even have put it into slient mode. Still stuck.

I should note that it was working fine just recently. Today I got up and turned it on, and this!

Going to try to undo all my recent changes to see if that helps.

Anything I'm missing?

I also see the load bar stop at 6% regularly, but it always resumes after a little while (20-30 seconds). One time, though, it happened that it really seemed to get stuck and wouldnt resume at all. While I was searching for anything that could help on my second computer I just left the loading screen as it was and eventually it did resume and I never had the problem again. It might have taken 15 or even 20 minutes for it to resume, but eventually it did.

Maybe you could have a look if it's the same thing as I had before starting to make changes to your system, it might just be a one-time fluke.

Cheers!

Maarten

6% has always been a sticking point, as you say going back to FSX... I've never has stick completely, but after adding large scenery packs, like Horizon photoscenery, it has taken a very long time to budge.

it has taken a very long time to budge.

Especially if you have installed Prepar3d on a HDD and not a SSD.

I do have it on a SSD.

Maybe the photoscenery aspect here is part of the problem, as I recently added some of the Aerosoft US Cities packages (all but one), and those were among the most recent changes that I made.

Thank you, guys, for the input. I will try first to just wait it out and hour or so and see what that brings. Then I'll remove the recent scenery additions and see if that helps.

Stuck at 6% or just spends a lot of time at 6%?

Be aware that entries in your DLL.XML can also cause this ... especially if the product is not designed for P3D.  Some products like the Orbx ObjectFlow.DLLs will go online and validate you have the most recent version ... if the server is slow or you have a bad connection, this can slow down the loading.  Many 3rd party products these days will have validation in their products.

Best way to figure out which one is causing the slow down is do the following:

1.  Disable entries in the DLL.XML and EXE.XML

2.  Disable add-on scenery in the scenery library

3.  Run P3D and time it

4.  Start adding back the scenery library entries one by one and run P3D and time it

Cheers, Rob.

Check over your scenery files.  It may be that you have a bgl file that does not have a texture file for it, or the other way around.  Or one of your files has gone corrupt.  I have closing in on 2TB of photoscenery and that is usually the cause for a stall at 6%.

OK, Rob, thank you. I removed the most recent sceneries that I had added, all of which had large photoreal backdrops included. I think also that part of my problem was also that it was trying to verify some Aerosoft sceneries that I had installed just manually, and not by use of the EMT. Might be that it was looking for some kind of registration and wasn't finding it. So that a shortcut that might have been part of my problem, if not all of it.

Anyway, all fixed, thanks all.

FOUND THE SOLUTION i belive!

fix the upper frame limit. For ex: I have I7 6900K, Gtx 1080, 34 gigs of ram DDR4 at 3200, i dunno if that matters but when i changed the upper frame limit from 90 to 150 everything fixed itself.

before the upper frame limit fix just delete the prepared.cfg file. Hope it will work for all.

I see you're new here--please check the dates on threads before posting, as this thread is over three years old and pertains to a long-gone two-major-versions-removed release of P3D.
