FSX unaffected by tweaks and painfully slow and messed up textures

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

Lately I've been trying to cope with a problem that driving me crazy - incredible slow texture load and unsharp distance textures. Therefore, I have been trying to tweak my fsx.cfg which is already tweaked by the Bojote-tool. Major tweaks such as fiber_frame_time_fraction does not impact my fsx AT ALL. I can put whatever values I want but the sim still lives on. Same goes for other tweaks. I'm starting to wonder if my tweaks somehow doesn't reach the game. I Norway, especially, I'm having an rather odd problem that you can view in the pictures underneath. I'm running FTX global with all the norway mesh (+addons) and I have tried to eliminate some addons but the problem still persists. Have anyone seen anything like this before? Its like the ocean texture are above the land textures and they conflict.

I think the problem may be in the order of your scenery library and not have anything to do with your CFG file. First thing I would do is delete your CFG file and let fsx build a new one. If the problem still persists then its not down your your Cfg file. System specs would be helpful too

I've tried that. Several times. System specs are as follows:

I7 4770K OCed to 4,4ghz (stable)

8gb ram

GTX 760

Asus Maximus Hero motherboard.

I have installed FTX correctly and I know I have the norway addons in the correct order cause I've doublechecked norwegian flightsim forums. Everything seems to work fine other places, except the horrible texture load. Thanks for answering :)

Just checking...are you sure you're modifying the right fsx.cfg?  The one in your user/appdata directory?

Yep! ^_^

Well, then, if it were me, I'd rename it to fsx.cfg.bak and start FSX and let it build you a new one and start from that.  The other thing to try is change something obvious that would definitely make a difference in FSX...like setting traffic to 0...to see if it works.

Yeah thats what I did. Then I slowly started to add the essential tweaks such as highmemfix=1 etc. I have left out affinitymask, fiberframtimefraction, bufferpools and messing with the texture_bandwidth. Things seems to be a little better, but the problem around Bergen persists.

Dx9 or 10?

With x9 don't use bloom or self shadowing really kills perf.

What AI traffics are you using?

I read yesterday that fiber_frame_time_fraction has no effect at all on multi-core CPUs, so basically it won't work on any modern PC.

In FSX, the biggest improvement on FPS I got was restarting Aero after FSX starts.  Not sure if it reduces load, though, which is, by my experience, what causes blurries.  Your sim's pretty close in spec to mine.  Are you using DX10 or 9?  NI?

What ever you read yesterday is not correct..

The "problem around Bergen" has to do with scenery layers / mesh etc and is not related to performance, I would think.

Might be helpful to separate the issues  B)

Have you investigated a system issue like a failing disk drive or disk fragmentation? Malware or a virus?

DX10 (and never going back). I had the same problem I remember with DX9. Only 20% Aerosoft MyTraffic. Rest is switched off, such as ferries and road vehicles.

DX10

I recently purchased two SSD, one for Win7 and one for FSX. So I don't think this is the problem. I have NOD32 installed and running as well.

I've read some benchmarks that say defragging an SSD has very, very limited value.  They don't behave at all like regular disks.  As Bert said, Bergen might be the problem so I'd focus on a different area.  (I do my testing in PNW Seattle.)  Some sceneries are just screwed up.

Ok thanks! I think I will have to give FS Global a try. Does anyone know if it works together with FTX global+vector?
