Réinstallation FSX, quelques doutes à lever...

Recommended Posts

Merci.

Loïc, Normandy, FRANCE

Hi Jim,

Thank's a lot for the link. I think i well followed all the tips for the FSX desinstallation.

i've two other questions :

- Is it necessary to execute the VENETUBO programm or not? Some manual changes in the FSX.cfg are better?

- Do i have to operate some changes in the FSX compatibility mode when i right click on the mouse (FSX exe)?

Thank's a lot Jim

Hi Loïc,

You should go into your profile and complete the information for your computer system so others can see what type of system you have. I think I recall you had several crashes using FSX and was hoping they had been fixed by now.

I would not employ any of the Venetubo tweaks unless you have a really old computer system (one before the Sandy Bridge chipset). Newer systems can handle FSX with few tweaks, if any. I do not tweak my FSX whatsoever but then I have an i7 4770K with a GTX 780 video card. Why would I want to mess around with that configuration? I have two tweaks in my FSX.cfg (well maybe 3): I have DX10 Preview turned on and have installed Steve's DX10 Fixer (as the default is buggy); my LOD_Radius setting in the FSX.cfg is set at 6.5 (the default max is 4.5) and the Texture_Max_Load is set to 2048 (which is HD)(default is 1024 - not HD). The secret for me is to let my system "breathe" so my sliders are almost exactly the same as those in the AVSIM FSX Configuration Guide - located to the right of this forum under Hot Spots. I also have the Nvidia Inspector installed and use the settings in the AVSIM FSX Configuration Guide. Moving all the sliders to the right are not going to enhance graphics and it is most likely going to ruin your enjoyment of flight simulation as you will run into issues. Maybe stuttering. Maybe the blurries. These are all caused by high settings. FSX is an old program and it just cannot keep up with your demands when you turn every setting up to the max. Something has to give and usually FSX will quit and you will be spending hours trying to figure out why? Why did FSX crash or freeze up?

AVSIM has a CTD Guide too located under Hot Spots. It talks about the uiautomationcore.dll which supposedly stops fsx from freezing up when you right click around the FSX menu more than 20 times. I do not use this fix and have never had such an issue. AVSIM and I do not recommend you employ this so-called CTD fix. The AVSIM CTD Guide is also a good place to go to find out how you can investigate your fsx issues. It's currently under revision but it has helped many fix their problems.

Hope this helps. I'm hoping others will chime in and provide you some advice and assistance too. We would like to see all of our members happy.

Hello Jim !

Thank you for all, i read with attention your explanation and it's very interisting to learn about your FSX experience.

I've added my PC configuration in my profile.

Actually, i have not reinstall FSX yet. I had several problems and i updated all my pilots and wanted to make the most effective reinstallation.

Do i'll tell you the first result as soon as i reinstall FSX, probably in few days...

The last time i did it, impossible to launch Acceleration CD...

We stay in touch Jim.

Hi Loïc.

You'll be surprised at the quality of the graphics with settings turned down (except for LOD and Texture_Max_Load). Good luck with your reinstallation. Take your time and make sure you start up FSX as soon as you finish installing FSX Deluxe. Shut fsx down and then install Acceleration (per the guide). Take your time and keep your fsx.cfg settings set at the default level or as close to it while you get FSX stabilized. Just change the resolution of the screen as FSX always gets that wrong. Install an addon if you have one, run fsx and make sure you like the addon, then install another addon, etc. If you are not installing on an SSD, then make sure you defrag your HDD that FSX is on as the installation program throws the FSX files all over your HDD. SSD's cannot be defragged.

Good luck Loïc.

Thank's a lot Jim, i'll test FSX as soon as possible !

Concerning DX10 Preview turned on and  Steve's DX10 Fixer, what is the improvement with FSX? no airplanes compatibility problems?

Have a good day Jim.

Most, like me, get better performance. DX10 is a superior technology to DX9. Why not use the latest and greatest tech? When you start tweaking DX10 Preview, you could have issues. I don't believe in tweaks with fast modern computer systems but I do set my LOD_Radius to 6.5 (max is 4.5) and the Texture_Max_Load at 2048 which is HD. I've had it at 4096 but not that much difference in quality so I lower it to have a bit better performance.

Many times when you insert another disk, it will not be read properly. Then, you must go into Windows Explorer, find the drive where the DVD is located, look for the setup or .msi program on the DVD, then right click it and select, run as Administrator.

You can also try some of the solutions at the following link - http://support2.microsoft.com/kb/910816.

Hi Loïc,

Sorry I cannot help you with this one other than the link I provided. The FSX Acceleration program will not install if it cannot find FSX installed in your Registry. You must make sure you never ever installed FSX SP2 too. The only other suggestion is to conduct a Google search and see if you can find a solution across the whole flight simulation community worldwide - https://www.google.com/#q=fsx+acceleration+disk+will+not+install. I understand even Microsoft cannot figure it out in many cases.
