Talkeetna [Outerra scenery]

So, some users on the Avsim's Outerra forum have asked me to share some of these pictures here.

 

You may already know Outerra, the planetary engine wich raise a lot of expectations for some people and infuriate others. Few month ago I've started to work casually on a small scenery of Talkeetna (Alaska), using the current limited yet efficient tools we have, and the buildings imported or created by the community. These are only a few selected cool shots, I don't want to kill people brandwith, but I have added to the end of the post links to full albums for those who wants to see more of it :smile:

 

You may notice the missing rivers : Outerra does not support them yet, they will probably be added in the next update of the roads/vector editor.

Which minimum specs are needed to obtain a good smoothness with this engine?

Which minimum specs are needed to obtain a good smoothness with this engine?

 

I get around 30-60fps with medium settings (difference with high is hard to notice), no vsync, at 1920*1980. Shadows and AO on low.

 

I have a intel I3 (3.40GHz), an AMD Radeon R9 200 (2048mo of Vram) and 4 Go of ram. Not exactly a high spec computer. I get these perfs on the scene, framerate can be around 70/80 on non-urban area and reaching 100/110 fps from space.

Outstanding shots!  Hope the developers create more tools and develop it further for flight simulation by adding an advanced weather system and cityscapes. Outerrra is clearly the best looking engine on the market.  Will be interesting to see how far they take it.

Amazing! I've never seen actual buildings and scenery in Outerra before. I bought the tech demo long ago but even though it runs very smooth and looks amazing, I got bored flying over the generic, auto-generated forests with no actual points of interest.

Is there more like this? I know it is probably years off, but look at the lighting? The mesh. Imagine that being a simulator with aircraft addons we have now? Imagine flight dynamics being introduced!

It's mostly why I have started to work on this scene and because without human made landmarks it was really difficult to get a good perception of distances. It's also necessary to note that it's not a one guy work, without the great work of those who have imported/made the buildings models, the scene would look a bit empty. Hell, Levi is porting the whole World2Xplane library, almost 1700 models already done :o

I will post a few other one later :) And about the FDM, Outerra already use JBSIM for aircrafts. There are no systems yet (but some users manage to make advanced things on ground vehicules, check Python Pago's Ural) and clearly a lack of sounds. I'm not exactly a FDM specialist but according some users, the flight model is pretty good but most existing aircraft will require a lot of tweaking in order to get a proper accurate feeling.

Chrome materials and cubemap reflexions give a great result ! I will post a few other pics of that car later :smile:
