Seriously thinking to ditch all payware airports...

Recommended Posts

I'm beginning to worry about the future of fsx add-ons. There are too many platforms (FSX, FSX Steam, & P3D) that devs have to consider when developing airports.

I've noticed that recent releases or updates to airports are now more shimmery and flickery than ever before. Now some airports work better in dx10 than dx9.

I just added La Palma and I have flickering textures all over the place. Split X also has issues. Liberia has the same flashing problem.

I'm starting to consider avoiding payware airports too.

Just curious, more flickery in DX9 or DX10?

Pe11e I completely agree with you. When you prepare your cockpit don't take care of airport bulding, and when taxing maybe a little bit.. The same when you are landing and taxing then to the gate. Make it simple, we are flying.

That addon from Zinertek is compatile with REX? I use if for runways textures. The only thing I'd use it would be for airport buildin texture.

I can only assume you're using P3D. The issue you're likely finding is called "z-fighting" and it's popped up on a lot of scenery, both old and new. It's unclear what LM did that brought this issue to the surface but developers seem to be able to fix it. It's just a matter, now, of developers taking the effort to go back and issue fixes and updates...

It depends on the add-on.

Negative. I'm using FSX, and I still see the z-fighting effect.

If I didn't have payware airports with FSX...............then forget it. I lived next door to the airport for thirteen years. Had a hangar there. It's all part of the flying experience. Besides, if I had no Orbx airports, then what's the point of it all?  :)

I think I spent 90% of my flying time ......................looking at the ground.

I use Zinertek/UTX/GEX etc with no payware airports. I prefer to spend my VAS and frames on ground scenery and complex aircraft like the PMDG 737s. I fly into muni/reg/county airports and avoid places like Manhattan. Besides, there is a wealth of freeware airport enhancements out there at that level that are really great.

:good: exactly my thoughts! My framrates are already between 25-30 on takeoff/landing/taxing due to MyTraffic at 50% and Aerosoft Airbus which is heavy on frames, so even without payware complex airports I reached minimum FPS I will tolerate. Never thought i3770k @ 4.5ghz will barely manage to keep 25-30fps close to default airports packed with AI.

I dumped MyTraffic for F1 UT2 and never looked back. Much better GUI, much better aircraft, and reliable. Dunno about FR hit tho. I run traffic at 85% commercial and 40% GA when flying 737 NG. I reverse when flying GA.

I dumped F1 UT2 for MyTraffic 6 and never looked back lol. Much better traffic during cruise, military aircraft, and at least I can alter the FSX options without traffic reset like with UT2.

NGX, MyTraffic 6 at 52%, FTX Global with OpeLC EU and Vector, and default airports with updated AFCADs - 700mb left on approach to LSZH. That is alarmingly low in my eyes, considering I'm using default aiports. Can't imagine how would it be with detailed payware airports, the number will be possibly between 200-400mb of VAS left, at best. But my bet is OOM with VAS hungry payware airports. So, yet another reason to stick with updated default. Sigh.

EDIT: oh, I also used texture optimizer on exterior model textures, so I've gain a bit of VAS there, maybe 50-100mb. Just for a heads up.
