Prepar3D v2.5 Development Update

Only thing that seems of interest to me is the vertical cloud issue... though I hardly have that issue. All in all not an update I will instal right away.

Interestingly there are many more SimDirector Updates than any others.

Same feelings here, not really impressed with this list of fixed items, but let's see what we get when the update is released.

I was in hope for a new ATC window. Obviously not a priority. Plus an extended LOD radius option.

It seems SimDirector is their priority at the moment

Possibly for those clients use use SimDirector for their business?

Extended LOD radius will probably not happen because of tessellation limitations (at least I think so), but I'm still waiting for a transparent ATC window as well. I personally can't believe they haven't acknowledged the terrain shadow bug yet, especially when it's been posted numerous times in the forums.

And is a complete reinstall advisable?

As I understand it that will be the only option for v2.5, there will be no patch.

Cheers, Rob.

I see nothing about OOM's  are these people living in a cave or did I read it wrong. Not impressed at all.

Actually, I'm a bit underwhelmed. No improvements to OOM issues, no general performance improvements, no fix for the terrain shadows. Seems pretty clear that LM focusses on SimDirector which I would assume their professional clients use a lot. So it's understandable how they prioritize their efforts but nevertheless disappointing for non-professional users (at least for me)...

This underscores the point that folks that expect this to be FSX revived may want to look elsewhere. It should never have been a secret that LM was developing a platform for commercial users and with an emphasis on scenario training...

It's that we're just now really starting to see the divergence...

I am not sure how the content of a single update proves a long-term divergence in development. Personally, I'm just glad to have access to a sim in-development.

Sometimes I think the sky is perpetually falling over here.

Edit: gmoney - I didn't intend to imply you think the sky is falling. Just a general comment.

Doesn't prove it by any means, but the focus on Sim Director and lack of a patch does suggest that they may be thinking more about professional users with relatively clean installs, and less about at-home users with multiple add-ons.  Not  reason to panic but maybe a trend to watch.  Agree with you about the value of a sim in development.  Speaking personally, if full-install updates are the way of the future, then I might consider being a lot more selective with my add-ons from now on.  That might, just possibly, be a good thing...

Part of me wants to say, "Hmmm...maybe if commercial is their focus, they'll have some staying power."  Still, though, it's not become my choice over FSX yet.
