A Good Candidate For FS(?

I was just curious about how one would make FS9 "large address aware" without using the 4gb patch.

then find: - Explorer Suite (CFF Explorer)

 

Install Explorer Suite and use that to open the FS9 executable in the FS9 main folder (not the short cut). Right click Open with CFF Explore. Under Nt headers, click on file headers. Once that opens you will find a section at the bottom called 'characteristics'. to the right of that click on 'click here', once you do that you will get a new menu. At the 8th item down "App can handle >2gb address space" put a check in the box. Click Ok. Go to the top of the CFF file and in the file section choose save. You are done. It allows FS9 to use more RAM than the 'normal' MS 32 bit program as it was designed. If you are using a 64 bit OS you do not need the 4gb patch because it will already allow more the 2gb virtual to be used. If your OS is 32 bit then you need the 4gb patch to make it use the extra VRAM. IF you do not have more than 2gb RAM do not use this tweak / fix, it will not do anything but cause more problems.

Well, FS9 installed properly, including the 9.1 Update, FSUIPC and FSRealWxPro. The other Update, having to do with '# 4', did not work. Oh well...

 

I'm having a little issue with Win 7 Updates, though; I have quite a few, but they do not seem to Install, to where W7 says "Unable to Install Windows Updates. Reverting Changes...". At the same time, I don't think they'll interfere with FS.

 

Now that I have FS9 installed, is it possible to simply replace the Gauges Folder with the one I have from my XP install, to preserve all of the Gauges that I've collected for the Airplanes I have?

Yes Alan, that should be possible (I assume that your old gauges folder also contains all stock gauges).

I even copied complete installations of FS9.1 this way already multiple times.

You are correct; my Gauges folder contains all of the Defaults. Unfortunately, I ended up putting them there instead of keeping them with their parent Aircraft!

 

This time around, I plan to add Aircraft as I need to, instead of throwing them all into the Sim.
