Installed effects not showing in FSX

Recommended Posts

I've installed both 777 Immersion and PrecipFX but they are not showing in the sim.

After every add-on aircraft installation, I run both PrecipFX and 777 Immersion to make sure these wonderful effects are added to my newly installed aircraft, but the effects do not display in the sim.  Any ideas?

Thank you,

Geoff Carr

Hi Geoff,

Many things can cause this issue:

  1. Do you have DX10 enabled?
  2. Do you have a migration tool enabled?
  3. Does your the registry points to the right direction?

Let me know if any of the propositions above fixes the problem!

Kevin,

No to #1 and #2 and for #3, do you mean the FSX directory? If not, would you mind guiding me through that one.  I should mention, this is after having to completely uninstall and reinstall FSX.  I had some issues that warranted that course of action, prior to the uninstall, everything was working great.

Also, I am noticing one possibly two effects working, the thrust spray behind the engines in wet conditions, and also think I saw the wheel tracks in water.  But that's it.

Looking forward to working with you.

Respectfully,

Geoff Carr

If you did a clear reinstall of FSX' everything should be fine for the registry. Forgot to ask: do you have FSUIPC installed?

Kevin,

I do have a registered version of FSUIPC. I noticed the vortices on the default crj700 this evening. So, I do believe that the PrecipitFX is working, however, my 777 Immersion is not working. I tried testing that with the weather set to Major Thunderstorm (fsx weather engine) and got nothing. I ran the 777 Immersion installer again, and it stated that it could not install the brake dust on all three variants of the 777 (200LR, 200F, 300ER). I'm not really sure at this point. I'm going to try to Uninstall 777 Immersion and reinstall it to see if that fixes things. Please let me know if you know of anything else I can try. I will test my 737 NGX 6, 7, 8, and 9 tomorrow to see if all the PrecipitFX effects are working and let you know. Thank you again for your guidance.

Respectfully,

Geoff Carr

Kevin,

I uninstalled 777 Immersion and reinstalled it. Still nothing. I have no idea. When it comes to the 777, sometimes the PrecipitFX effects work, sometimes they don't. I saw the water tire tracks and engine thrust spray during taxi, but when I got on the runway, all that stopped and it was as if I was on dry land. And NO sign of wingtip vortices either. I'm at a loss. It seems to be a problem with the 777. I made sure everything was up to date with the 777. But to no avail.

Waiting for help.

Mmhhhh, that's all a bit strange.

Contact us via our support page on our website, we'll have a deeper look at the problem. Make sure you include an aircraft.cfg file from one of your 777.

Thanks

I have reinstalled the precipitFX effect package and have reviewed the DX10 Controller ( steve Fx ) and seems to work, but the vortices on the wingtips are very tenuous and contrails to short, can i modify this? can you show me how?

Hi,

have you ticked the box "exclude particle effects" in the DX10 Fixer tab? If you exclude the effects from beeing converted, you will have rather "pale" effects. You have to UNTICK the box, but as the manual says, converting all particle effects can cause signifcant performance issues in FSX, so be careful.

Same with editing the contrails. The "volumetric" like contrails seem to be frame rate impacting. As long as you stay with the standard length, there is no huge drop, but i can only tell you, that's not a good idea to extend the PrecipitFX contrails in FSX DX10 to anything longer than standard
