Can't Load ASN

Recommended Posts

I am a new user and have installed and updated to the most current version of SimLauncherX (vs 1.1.5500.34658) running in FSX on a fairly recent Alienware system running system 7.

I am attempting to set-up Active Sky Next by setting up the path to the ActiveSky weather data folder per the set-up instructions pdf (1.1).

The path appears to be set-up correctly however I can not deselect "Do not specify ActiveSky weather data folder": In other words the X remains.

I checked several sites to see if there were limitations to this version or whether a donation was required - to no avail.

Could you provide a link or an explanation and what is required to uninstall SimLauncherX. A possible reinstall may be required.

Thanks for any help.

Hi Stofvel,

I do not quite understand what you want to achieve. The 'X' is a button, not a checkbox, and is there just to clear the ActiveSky path entry, there's nothing to select or deselect. If you click on the button, the path will be cleared and SLX will not use ActiveSky weather data. If the path you entered is correct, just click on 'Save'.

If you still want to uninstall SLX, use Control Panel, Programs and Features and uninstall SimLauncherX. After that, delete the [Documents]\SimLauncherX folder.

thanks, Maarten

Thanks for getting back so quickly.

As stated I am trying to get Active Sky Next (ASN) to work with SLX.

I have posted a screen shot (link) of my setup which mirrors the path delineated in your manual's example (with the exception of course that we are using FSX not P3D).

When we hit "Save" and return to SLX OR restart the program - SLX returns to the same state as the screenshot.

I assume the path is incorrect, however, other than the example provided in the manual I don't have any way of knowing what path might be workable.

Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide and for the uninstall instructs.

Hi Stofvel,

Everything if fine and you are good to go. The X does not indicate that something is wrong, it's just a button to clear the path.

thanks, Maarten

Thanks Maarten,

I did a cursory check with the METAR string at my local and it did not appear correct. Perhaps a bit too cursory ;-), on my part.

Is there any way of verifying that the weather string is via ASN or a substitute?

It looks like a great product Maarten - I need to put it through its paces yet but a well deserved contribution is sure to be forthcoming.

Thanks again Maarten for your product and excellent help.

Is there a link to the most current version?

I think I will be passing it along.

Hi Stofvel,

It depends on where your looking at. The METARs on the weather tab show current weather dowloaded from the www.noaa.gov web site. ActiveSky weather (wind, temperature and weather stations) is shown on the map and can be turned on and off using the buttons on the Overlays ribbon tab. Please have a look at the user guide for further details.

There's no direct link to the most current version. Just install any version and, on startup, SLX will inform you when a new version is available and offers you the possibility to download and install this new version.

thanks, Maarten

Thanks Maarten - I had a chance to dig a bit further into SLX today.  Impressive! Little things like knowing surface winds at destination airports when setting up FPs - invaluable info offered up at a glance, etc, etc.
