How to link FSX aircraft light splash to landing lights.

Guy's, I've been painting aircraft for FSX for a few years now. Creating a light splash is quite easy but figuring out how to make the splash come on with the landing lights

 is, for me at least, a bit like having your head in a vice. I have read bits on FS 2002/2004 that uses the alpha channel but that doesn't work in FSX -again, at least for me.

 

I'm sure this is not a new topic and sorry if people are going to start yawning again, but I would like to know.

 

I tried out the Thomas Ruth DC10 (Tom_DC10)_V2)  I can get nice splashes but they are on all the time.

 

Any help would be great.
