[07FEB15] PMDG 777-200LR/F & 300ER for P3D Released!

Recommended Posts

The people complaining it's the exact same product simply install your FSX version in P3D. What? It doesn't work? But you have said it's the exact same thing.

If I buy a game for XBox do I get the same game for free or at a discount for Playstation?

announced that we were going to update the NGX again for free with features like weather radar,

Will this free update to the P3D737 which was mentioned to be in beta with the above post, also mean a free release for P3D, or will we have to rebuy the 737 like the 777? I might wait for the 737 before reinvesting into the 777...

Edited Post: Made a mistake with P3D and 737. Meant 737.

Also, Thank you for the information Tabs. I am just expressing my frustration, doesn't mean I don't like you guys or your products... Just a different point of view. I am happy with my T777 for FSX.

Perhaps with the very popular release of FSX-SE they are not expecting big order numbers from P3D now and this pricing policy reflects that

Robert alluded to the fact that their main revenue stream in P3D will come from professional clients who will use the software for real-world training, and I am sure that the price point for THOSE customers will be well into the 4 or even 5 digit territory.

This is one area which those who keep making comparisons to Aerosoft, and other entertainment-only vendors apparently do not understand. Unlike FSX, P3D has the potential to be legally used for FAA-approved training of real-world aviation professional flight or maintenance personnel. That does not mean that software running under P3D is automatically approved for real-world training - but the P3D platform does have that potential. FSX does not, and never will.

I am required to attend two FAA-approved recurrent training courses every year in order to maintain my ratings for the makes and models of aircraft my employer maintains under its repair station certificate. Those schools make heavy use of CBT desktop simulators which are no better than, (and in some cases much less realistic than) the PMDG NGX or 777. The CBTs are not for Boeing products, but they are still rather basic and limited for the aircraft they do emulate.

We certainly don't pay $90 For unlimited use of this training software. The actual cost is $15,000 per student, per year, and we have access to the software for precisely 10 days, and no more.

Why the high price tag? Because the software is developed under a license granted directly by the aircraft manufacturer, and runs on an FAA-approved training platform.

Nobody is being forced to use P3D, and nobody is being forced to buy the 777 for use on that platform. I would remind all the naysayers that PMDG also recently expended no small amount of effort to make the 777 compatible with FSX-SE, and did not charge a single penny to any user for that upgrade.

Will you guys allow us to maintain a single purchase for every version of Prepar3D? I know they update to newer versions like V1, V2, and eventually V3... and each time they do, they charge another $60 for that, but not for the smaller updates, such as V2.4. You guys mentioned you will update to 64 bit when it comes around, and is most likely free, I'm just curious about actual upgrades to each new version of Prepar3D.

Brandon-

The expectation is that a single license will carry you through all minor P3D v2.x and v3.x updates.  We can't really see beyond the 3.x event horizon just yet- so I don't want to comment on anything over that horizon- but it puts any further requirements a couple years out based on our own estimates of LM's progress.

Obviously we cannot offer a license into infinity, as we wouldn't be able to reasonably maintain continued development that way- but I anticipate seeing x64 arrive with P3D v3.0...

The license cost in P3D will go up rather significantly for new entrants once we hit v3.x and x64 compatibility...  Which is why we are offering the promotional pricing now...

Does that answer your question?

  • This PMDG 777 license is for personal use only, not for professional or training use.
Your point about commercial and training use is irrelevant to this. As per the terms of use, it can't be used for that. So saying it's expensive because of the license blah blah is rubbish. It's not a training license. It's not a commercial license. It's a personal license which is much much much cheaper. Neither Boeing, nor the FAA has approved this for use other than personal use.</p>

That's true. But Tabs said that PMDG has to pay considerably higher license fees to make the product for the P3D platform, whether it is used for training or not. I don't think that entertainment-only software vendors like Aerosoft have the kind of relationship with the aircraft manufacturer that PMDG does.

Looking forward to it! ;) After reading some of the posts... I'll look at investing in the 777. @JimBarrett You made some good points, you put things into a very interesting perspective. Thanks for sharing your story.

I'm sorry you keep getting taken out- but a few of your posts have been more about venting your frustration than engaging in discussion.  It isn't about you personally- but we do have to maintain civil discourse forum wide...

Charge me for something more, not for the same exact thing on the same exact sim.  Charge me for Multi crew on P3D-64.  Don't charge me for promises.

It sucks in a way, but I'm done dealing with this company.  Thank you for the great products.

Great news about the NGX coming soon.   This is my work horse aircraft as I fly for Southwest Virtual most of the time and they only buzz around in 737's.    I have been eye-balling the 777 for a long time but never made the plunge in FSX because of its dismal performance on my machine.   P3D runs like a charm though.  It is good to finally have PMDG's high quality available to us P3D flyers.   Off to grab a copy!   I can finally fly for FEDEX!
