CTD in and around a part of NY State!

Recommended Posts

The CTD is happening around part of NY State that facilitates NY City and the surrounding 50 miles or so. When I select any airport in this area as part of the where I want to start, etc it loads to 100% and then CTD. On the other hand, if I am flying toward this area there comes a point when the CTD occurs! I have always used Metro helipads for both FS9 and FSX but no issues in many years. I have disabled the pads, but still the CTDs.

Running FSX with Acceleration.

The NTDLL.dll is the faulting module.  The AVSIM CTD Guide has a list of probable causes for the NTDLL.dll error, which includes a bad overclock.  Did you turn on the Turbo Frequency so that your CPU could run at 3.30GHz?  If you did, you might want to disable that and see if that fixes the problem  If you didn't, then you might want to turn on the Turbo Freq to 3.30GHz.

I would also move the uiautomationcore.dll to a temporary folder.  It may not be compatible with the programs you are running.  As you can see, it was not the holy grail of fixing FSX CTD's as you are having CTD's.  I have never knowingly used the uiautomationcore.dll in my main FSX folder and I have never had an FSX Menu CTD.  I have tried to replicate the crash but no joy.  They say it fixes FSX Menu crashes only (right clicking while in FSX and selecting an option at least 19 times).

Microsoft Visual Redistributable 2005++ is installed correctly with the correct version.  I do not see Microsoft Visual 2008 w/SP1 installed but that's okay as long as you just have FSX and Acceleration installed.  If you have any addons, they might use Microsoft Visual 2008 but they will install the program if it is not found on your computer system.  Sometimes members move stuff from a backup to the FSX directory and forget about installing the Microsoft Visuals that are required to make sure the application was installed properly.

The Orbx/FTX stuff definitely requires Microsoft Visual 2008 w/SP1.  Here is the link to the latest version - http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26368.%C2'>

Hope this helps.

Jim, thank you for responding.

Overclocking and Turbo Frequency are words in a foreign context for me. I would not know how to change them.

Apart from installing FSX and following the AVSIM configuration guide, nothing else has been altered.

This computer is part of a finely balanced network for work purposes, so nothing is altered and why I have very limited add-ons. Those that I have, have been installed for a very long time. Excluding Orbx which was their free-bee. The CTD was happening before that install.

I will check out FSX again, as I had a major clean out yesterday with Revo Uninstaller Pro, and many flight sim leftovers were removed!

Thanks

Have tried to install Microsoft Visual 2008 w/SP1, but...
 Installation Requirements:

A compatible version of Visual Studio 2008 was not detected on the system. This update is designed for only the Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 (ENU) product family, and is not compatible with any Express editions.

Unless the base package VS2008 was installed by Microsoft in its updates, one is very reluctant to install unless it is part of MS requirements!

Thanks you

Sauviat

Have left out the uiautomationcore.dll and still not starting up from with with NY City environs!

It is now safely back in the FSX folder

Thanks

There are no other solutions to your problem other than those recommended in the AVSIM CTD Guide.

Is the uiautomationcore.dll stopping your sim from crashing?  Answer:  No.  One of the solutions for many who have had the ntdll.dll crash is to remove the uiautomationcore.dll from their main fsx folder.  Most likely they put in the wrong version.  You can only put in two certain versions in that folder as indicated in the CTD Guide.

I have installed the Microsoft Visual C++2008 w/SP1 (NOT  Microsoft Visual Studio as you indicated above) at the link I provided and it has always worked for me.  Visual Studio?  You don't want to install Visual Studio.  I see the link I provided did not show up in my post above.  Links do not show up in posts if one has the BBCode turned on so that you can using the editing features in the menu.  This is a major glitch in the latest browsers.  I looked and I thought the link was showing.  Since it is not, here's the link again - http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26368

You are getting very close to having to reinstall Windows and then FSX as you are quickly running out of solutions.

Which one?

Choose the download you want
File Name

vcredist_x86.exe

vcredist_IA64.exe

4.4 MB

vcredist_x64.exe

5.0 MB

As for uninstalling Windows for the sake of not getting to NY in FSX, certainly not an option as, I said earlier, this computer is part of a work related function. As FS9 is not an issue and, superior for certain types of simulated flying, I will not lose any sleep in missing NY!

Please let me know which of the downloads above and I will try it out.

Thanks

You need the x86 version.  FSX is a 32 bit application.  I still think the problem is with a bad installation of FTX/Orbx scenery as they need Microsoft Visual 2008 to run properly.  If the program is not there, FSX will crash.

"I had a major clean out yesterday with Revo Uninstaller Pro, and many flight sim leftovers were removed".

Did the problem start before or after you performed this step? If it is the latter, then it sounds like a key file may have been removed with all the other bits and pieces. Is there a way you can reverse the process you did or try a system restore to a point prior to that cleanout?

Jim, I have installed it, but still when I chose a NY airport it gets to 100% and goes no further.

Ian, the problem started 2-3 months ago, before the FTX/Orbx freeware was installed.

Come to think of it FTX/Orbx was installed on 11 Feb. 2015.

I installed both the US and EU freeware and EU works fine as do other parts of the US. Anyway I will move the Orbx folder out of the FSX root and see what happens.

Thanks

Taking FTX/Orbx out has not resolved it.

Have now resigned myself to the fact that while the problem is localised to around a 50-60 mile radius of NY, it has nothing to do with with the recent add-ons as I had removed them and still getting the problem.

For sure it is a scenery issue, but is there a tile or something that fits in with a 50-60 mile radius of NY?

On another note, I have a saved flight that used KETB before the issue. It does load, but now after a few minutes of flying around the vicinity of the airport (helicopter) it does CTD. Again, most certainly points to a scenery issue.

Thanks

In the AVSIM CTD Guide, there is a procedure we set up where you can run Process Monitor for just FSX during your flight. When FSX crashes, you look at the log and you might see what was loading at the time of the crash. Thousands of items are being processing every minutes (and sometimes seconds) so you have to be careful how long you run the log but it is a great investigative tool. I was able to find out exactly what was causing my freezes at the same spot on every flight by using this tool. See page 4.

Jim, will the Processor Monitor assist if I select any airport in the area where it crashes, even if FSX does not get to the point of having loaded up to start a flight?

Thanks

Jim, will the Processor Monitor assist if I select any airport in the area where it crashes, even if FSX does not get to the point of having loaded up to start a flight?

Thanks

Sauviat

You can start the process monitor anytime/anywhere during your flight. Always interesting to see what's loading during a flight. My flights from Chicago to St Louis, I was shocked to see Orbx stuff loading in the PNW and some scenery in California (all of it was Autogen). Of course, if you have AI, you will see it loading a lot too and your weather program updating.

From the Process Monitor. These, below, had "Name Not Found" against them. Does this mean that, because they were towards the end of log, that they have cause the CTD?

“NAME NOT FOUND” occurs all the time. This is due to programs searching different locations for something until it finds it and a result of “SUCCESS” appears. Those files shown are from your default installation of FSX so they should be there. The process monitor may have looked in the registry for them and didn't see them so registered "Name Not Found". Your only solution is to go to those directories and make sure the files are there. If not, you may have a corrupted installation or you might have turned off something in the Scenery Library that a program was looking for the file but, because it didn't load when you started FSX, it cannot find it.
