CTD in and around a part of NY State!

Recommended Posts

Umm! I have not installed the SDK option when FSX was installed, as developing within FSX is not my thing. I cannot see on this computer anything associated with SDK. Bizarre! Probably an add-on has it in their software. Anyway I will delete them from the dll.xml.

Never had any issues with SquawkBox.

Will now spend sometime adding to the default scenery on a step-by-step basis. I will revert when the issue has been identified.

Thank you for all the assistance you have given so far, it has been invaluable and educational in understanding FSX much better.

The laborious process of adding back the add-ons to the default.cfg has finished, even with the use of the Config Editor!

Culprit was an add-on  called "Intrepid" which is part of the Metro scenery for Metro Helicopters. Well I have had this scenery for a very long time, from the days of FS9 and has been with no problems in FSX, until now. Intrepid is the carrier in NY City and fits in with other parts of the NY landing pad facilities. Now that I have taken it out of the add-ons it looks strange on that part of the river without it!

Before I close off this thread as solved, it is necessary to understand why, after all this time there seems to be a conflict with something else, but what?

Is it safe to re-install this add-on as it is just a case of placing it from the download directly into the add-on scenery folder? I have backed up the Scenery.cfg without Intrepid, so I do have something to fall back to.

This investigation process has enabled me to understand much more to FSX. But for sure one has to be skeptical when downloading software and add-ons for FS, For sure there are there are developers that include additional items in which are not necessary and if they auto install you have no way of knowing. I prefer manual installations.

Thanks

I would guess that's the USS Intrepid?  I recall Aerosoft developed the product "Manhattan" for FSX which has the carrier but with one of the Concorde's on it.  There is also a ton of landing zones around Manhattan.  Since you moved up to FSX, I would recommend you check Manhattan out.

If you don't want to do that, Flight One has a product called Addon_Converter_X.  It's about $20 but it has a demo mode that runs for 20 minutes just to see if it works for you.  What it does is convert old FS9 stuff to FSX textures until you end your flight.  After you end your session, the textures revert back to the fs9.

I'm glad your investigation pinned down the cause of your crashes.  It's a laborious task but I know of no other way.  I also learned a lot about FSX and FSX addons several years ago when I first started getting crashes and started the investigation process.  Hope you can work out your issue with the USS Intrepid.

Yes, the USS Intrepid it is! I do not use the carrier other than as an additional landing area next to one of the major heli terminals on the river.

I will investigate the conflict further, for sure. Thank you for the heads up on the additional software also.

Again, thank you for all the support that you have given me and for others that use Avsim.

Regards and Thank you
