Orbx Prepar3D V2.X suggested slider settings?

Recommended Posts

Hello Orbx users,

I don't see any updated docs for Prepar3D version 2 on suggested slider settings.

FSX and Prepar3D V.1 are quite similar, but as everyone knows, Prepar3D V2 is a different beast altogether.

I know I probably need to update my graphics card :) but anyone with similar setup?

Hey Juuuuude! (ha! I bet that's the first time you've ever heard that, right? right??)

In all seriousness, this whole 'different beast altogether' gets bandied around quite a bit too often for my liking. The rendering is much improved but, at its core, it's still ESP. When(if?) we see a 64Bit version of P3D it'll have earned the 'different beast' moniker.

I run Orbx Global/Vector and OpenLC Europe, but I'm on a GTX 970, I see you're on a 580 from your profile. Before the 970 I had a 660 and I basically ran everything on 'middle' slider, ultra water and only cloud and 'user vehicle' reflections. I've found shadows to be the biggest threat to FPS.

Rob Ainscough has some good starting points on his site http://robainscough.com/Prepar3D_Settings_2.html but beware he's running quite a beefy rig.

I will second the notion of using Robs settings as a starting point, then tweak to your liking. That's what I did and am quite pleased. His "high" settings worked like a charm with my 680. I even bumped up building autogen to max and still get acceptable framerates with Orbx.

Good luck!

Thanks for your inputs :), I've been hearing "Hey Jude" since I was 3 years old,but not to worry, I'm immune at this stage.

Yes, my 580 needs updating :) it was top-notch when the NGX was released :( With X-Plane 10, I now have an excuse to splash out (slowly).

980ti's are coming out pretty soon so I would wait and get one of those if its in your budget.  I have a 780ti now and am going to upgrade when they are available.

Switching my 580 to a 970 is night and day in P3D.

Thanks, I was thinking of getting a 970 alright ;) 980Ti seems a bit overkill :)
