A2A Cessna 172 heading bug problem

Recommended Posts

Am using FSX, MCP2, Linda 2.5.7 and A2A Cessna 172 module 1.0.2

Using the heading knob on the MCP2 causes the heading bug on the aircraft to jump about and the MCP reading for the heading does not sync with the aircraft heading. I have tried reassigning the heading knob values in Linda from the A2A library to the FSX control values - heading bug inc and dec. This gives a smooth operation of the heading bug butt he values still do not sync. Can anybody with the A2A 172 help please?

I am not the specialist on the aircraft modules and I don't have the A2A C172 so I am unable to look at this issue. I also no longer have any spare time to even start any investigation. Perhaps Guenseli can assist.

Hi scot

Thanks hopefully guenseli can help as i have no clue how to rectify this problem with the a2a c172, pretty sure only started happening when upgraded from 2.5.7 have tried re installing a2a c172 in linda but same result might have to roll linda back to 2.5.7

Hi Wayne and Richard

From Richard's post above (#1) suggests that the problem exists in 2.5.7 so reverting back to that version will not solve the issue. It is stated by others and I can verify myself that the A2A C182 is fine. There have been no changes to the common heading handling code in recent versions. The problem is likely to lie within the aircraft module and interface (lvars).

Hi Wayne

I need to explain a couple couple of odd rule with any software like LINDA.  What may work with one situation or aircraft does not mean that it will work with another.  With LINDA each aircraft can have its own unique interface requirements even if that are from the same company.  The other rule is that if it does not work the expected way in certain conditions, software will always do the same thing no matter how many times you repeat the operation or swear at it.

LINDA comprises 3 parts: the core EXE providing the GUI and command handling to and from FSX via FSUIPC; the LUA back-end code; and the aircraft LUA modules.  The aircraft specific code dealing with the Lvars interface communicates with the LINDA backend to display information on the MCP.  Your problem is likely be in the C172 aircraft module but there could be an adverse interaction with the default display and control code in common.lua.

If I had time and access to the A2A C172, I would look at a comparison between the working A2A C182 module and that for the C172.

Right Gents!

Enough is enough.  I have brought and paid for my own copy of A2A C172. I installed it to run under P3D 2.5 and installed the A2A C172 module 1.02 running under LINDA 2.6.1.

Aircraft started and sat on the end of the runway. Operating the HDG knob on my MCP2 the heading bug and MCP2 display correctly reflect the knob changes in slow and fast modes.  The changes are smooth with no jumping.  The same applies to the OBS (MCP lefthand knob) changing the top righthand compass dial. Selecting DME1 also allows the Radio knob the OBS display and topright compass dial to be changed. Selecting DME2 allows the Radio knob to rotate the middle righthand compass dial.

I am using the pre-defined HDG (A172 AP HDG plus/plusfast/minus/minusfast) and SPD (CRS plus/plusfast/minus/minusfast).

Everything is working as I would expect and I cannot see any of the problems described above.

My only suggestion is for you to backup your \linda and \linda-cfg folders and then delete them. Do a fresh install of LINDA 2.6.1 and the A2A C172 1.02 module.  You can copy back the \linda\aircrafts and linda-cfg\aircrafts configurations later.

I will now return to my other important work.

Hi Scot

Good to know its just something with our specific setups, your a champion thanks for doing that, I have already done what you suggested several times but I will try again and troubleshoot until I find out what is going on now that I know it does work, thanks

Wayne

Rhalton

Let me know if you solve this only thing i have not tried is to fully remove and reinstall the a2a c172

Hi Wayne and Richard

Having successfully installed a A2A 172 in P3D 2.5 this morning with a clean copy of LINDA 2.6.1 (as described above), I tried the same thing this evening with FSX-SE. On starting FSX-SE I found that the 172 was being seen as either the Microsoft C172 or as a FSX Default aircraft and I was unable to sync to the A2A 172 aircraft. This can be seen in the LINDA Console 6 lines down from start.

Check your problematic installation. If "A2A 172" cannot be sync-ed in LINDA (box outlined in orange) and FSX Default is showing then this could explain your problems.  I will need to do some detailed investigation when time permits.
