[03MAR15] PMDG's First Product for XPlane...

PMDG,  

 

I haven't read the entire thread, but i did search and didn't see if anybody had asked. What system specs will be required to run the DC-6 in XP? What system specs are you using right now during developement?

Although X-Plane never interested me, this is really one piece of amazing simulation!

PMDG never sieze to amaze!

Tech specs probably won't be announced until end of beta/release because they'll need to test performance on a vast range of systems.

 

However, as has been said, I'm fairly confident you won't have any problems.

Robert: I know you do not read all of the posts. If you did you would see how many times I have asked about the DC-6 in an off topic post. I do not have X-Plane but that is OK. All I can say is it looks up to the standards I would expect from any PMDG product and Thank You.

Good overall quote as it helps explain why some folks might be confused.

 

Those two paragraphs you quoted are totally different points, however.  The first paragraph talked about having the "sandbox" project so that we could learn Xplane and adapt our technology and skills to match the simulation platform.

 

The second paragraph (quoted above) is explaining that we will then evaluate the market and determine which of the major airliner packages will get ported into Xplane.

 

I can see why some readers might get confused by the proximity of the paragraphs- but I didn't intend to link them as if to say "if you guys don't buy the sandbox project we will abandon Xplane."  I hope that clarifies circumstances and puts the worries to rest.

 

For Fabio:  We certainly appreciate your enthusiasm, and I appreciate you apologizing for accidentally running roughsod over our forum rules.  (Many folks just get mad when we point to them- so the civility was noticed and appreciated.)

 

I wanted to to point out that I can appreciate your disappointment that we didn't choose something that was personally interesting to YOU- but the complexity of what we do is so large that it just wasn't feasible for us to push the NGX or the 777 into Xplane as a learning project.  Heck it has taken us two years to get the DC-6B to where we are comfortable showing it- can you imagine how long it would take do do a full blown airliner to our detail levels?

 

Once the DC-6 is out- we aren't really all that concerned with sales units in XPL, FSX or P3D.  This project had a purpose, and it's purpose is being well served by the XPL development cycle.

 

Upon completion we will move to our next XPL project. We haven't decided what it will be- but I have already decided in my head what I think it should be.  We will have a team discussion, and the junior guy on the XPL development team will get to speak first and explain what he thinks we should do next and why.  I will be the last to speak...  and then as a team we will decide what comes next.

 

So in our book the question isn't "if" something else comes...  it is "what" will come.

Thanks for sharing this excellent news with us, RSR and PMDG! Your choice of making a DC-6 first is certainly not bad. This plane has got its own unique personality, and I look forward to explore and take it on (in XPlane and/or P3D).

Thanks for sharing the news PMDG. I think it is good for the Xplane community to. Probably this release will give a boost in acceptance of Xplane.

 

This seems a quite complicated aircraft to me so I hope the tutorials are extensive. I got Xplane but never used it. I think the time is right to buy this plane and install Xplane.

There won't be a P3D plus XPlane licence as they are not the same target, X-Plane is entertainment whereas P3D is not.

True. Laminar Research and LockMart probably require a seperate license each. I would, if I was them. B)

 

X-Plane does have a FAA-certifiable professional version, though. So it's not quite a clear cut between entertainment and commercial as you make it out to be.

While this is true it wouldn't be easy (or cheap) to get a unified license. Seperate licenses would be required, so separate products.

On the other hand, it's possible they'll do what they did with the 777 P3D update. Offer it for sale for a brief time at a lower introductory price (probably equal to the XP/FSX price) before going back to it's normal price, which is likely to be higher then XP/FSX licenses.

I like old planes, almost all analog, and it was love at first look, but do not use Xplane then he gets to FSX and P3D I expect a great time, but with positive thinking.
In this waiting time I go using my other love, the 737 NGX SP1d in FSX_SE!
