Any advice on P3DV2.5 popcorn clouds?

Recommended Posts

Hoping you might have some comments on the appearance of "popcorn" like cumulus clouds in the latest P3dV2.5?

I'm not accusing Opus of anything but I am seeing this with P3D+Rex Texture Direct + OpusFSI

and would appreciate your opinion on the possible cause.

Some discussions and screen shots here:

Thanks,

gb.

This has nothing to do with OpusFSI or any other weather engine. The cloud positioning, cloud texture (bitmap) selection, and all cloud rendering is performed by the sim, P3D v2.5 in this case. I will say others are not seeing such clouds so I would advise you install better cloud textures, such as the REX Soft Clouds or the FEX Soft and Naturals. All images using similar cloud textures with P3D look very good indeed, especially when combined with our detailed real world weather and cloud formations. Stephen :-)

Cloud tectures have absolutely nothing to do with the weather engine. Weather engines do not select the cloud textures or texture bitmaps, the sim does that. So this has nothing to do with OpusFSI.

Try the new REX Soft Clouds or if you can in P3D, try the FEX Soft and Naturals.

We have loads of screenshots showing excellent P3D v2.5 cloud textures and structures in our SimForums.

The appearance of the clouds is mostly down to the installed cloud textures or bitmaps.

There is already a huge thread formed on this topic:

There are no 'fixes' but there are band-aides in there that may help. So now, I did the Cloud.fx fix but this is only a band-aide.

This has nothing to do with weather engines that generate and inject the weather.

It's purely a result of the P3D coding (cloud texture rendering) combined with the installed cloud textures (cloud bitmaps).

There is nothing the OpusFSI LWE can do about this. It defines and injects the weather. The sim code is solely responsible for depicting or rendering the weather including positioning and rendering the clouds, selecting and handling the cloud bitmaps (textures) etc..

I would try installing the REX Soft Clouds or the FEX Soft and Naturals.

Also the images posted by an OpusFSI user in that topic look just fine, most likely using a soft cloud texture type. We have had no P3D users report problems, again nothing to do with the OpusFSI weather engine which will make the most of any cloud texture set you install.
