Finer control.  A small movement at the handle translates to a smaller input at the base if the shaft is longer.

Just like Alan mentioned.  Gives you finer control and also has the benefit of having less effective resistive force due to the longer lever arm.  Basically, you can put it where you want it and it still goes back to center when you let go.  I definitely consider it a good purchase

Thanks guys, I think I had read that somewhere, will look for the article. The bottom line was that is still wasn-t very adequate because yes, you can get smaller movements but then if you want to do larger ones you have to travel much more distance etc. etc...

Although that is true about needing a larger displacement for more extreme control inputs, that is also where trimming (traditional or a force trim for a helo) comes in.  It basically makes it so most of your fine movements are right around the center point for the stick and you have very good control with the longer lever arm.  Just my thoughts.  fwiw, A real cyclic and to a lesser extent a real jets center mounted joystick have a pretty long lever arm
