[30MAR15] NGX Updates and some other News Bits

Recommended Posts

Seeing you are doing this update thing with whole installers I think you really should take a look at your bandwidth on your servers.

I mostly get around 150-200 kB/s from your servers when downloading NGX or 777. Geting 1GB zip file then takes a while.

I have a 100/100 Mbps line. So its not on my end.

Any thoughts?

Karim-

Thoughts?  Yes...   If you experience slow service- the issue is definitely Amazon's S3 cloud based global distribution network.  Definitely couldn't be your ISP... connection to the ISP, etc.  It has to be Amazon.

I'll try to find us a more reputable provider.  The amazon guys are running it out of the trunk of a 1978 Nissan hatchback with hand-crank generator and a 12v car battery backup.  I should have known that wouldn't be sufficient.

Will the 777 update address the compatibility issues with the FSX-SE Beta just closed  (No systems functions)? A new Beta is due early April . So you may want to hold off with the 777, until, we see what that does. So you don't have to do double work.

Tom Cain

Tom-

We provided copies of the 777 to DTG in hopes that they would diagnose whatever-the-hell-it-was they did to break it.

We are in communication with them, and they are aware of it.  Which isn't to say we all share the same point of view or that they will fix it...  but hey, you gotta start somewhere- and they do appear to care that it is broken- which is a starting point.   B)

Both packages have new installers.

Walter-

Thanks- yes, they do!

Everyone should take a moment to check the Operations Center.  It will tell you all you need to know about version numbers, etc.  You can answer the question of whether your software is up-to-date and whether you need to download new updates for any PMDG package you have installed-  all without relying upon Walter to tell you!  B)

That's not actually a bad setup Robert....now....if they say they've changed to running on 787 batteries....well, you know.

I am getting over 1280kbps (1.2MB\s) in New Zealand so for those complaining, look at your country or ISP. I am also on 100\100 fibre.

Now I am off to fly my shiny new P3D NGX

I think Robert explained this very well and I assume you read his post so I must presume this is a complaint rather than a question or suggestion.

yes, unfortunately it is. But not kicking off or making waves, just feel that it's been long enough to get this sorted.

Don't think it's right that the update is available for some but not others, shouldn't have been released until it's available for all, why should I have to wait any longer because I bought the disc version?

I hate to throw salt on the wound, but from your earlier post, you stated you purchased the NGX through Flightstore. The only DVD update path I'm aware of that PMDG said they are working on is with Aerosoft, so you may want to contact them directly (I guess the best way s to submit a support ticket) to see if your situation will be covered.

P3D

Can we just run the installer over the one installed or do we have to un-install then re-install.

Or just update though op center?

Thanks for the updates Robert, I actually prefer update news after the fact when the work has been done, as in this case already.

It eliminates all the "when" and "soon" posts that we all know and love. :P

Agree!

Thanks for the update - I opened the Ops Center and was notified of it, and thought, what? ... I've never heard about an incoming update   ... this answers the question!    I agree with Jude, it's a good way to do things to communicate them when they're ready, to save all the "when, when, when?!" posts.   Cheers.

That's great! Wasn't sure since FSS and Aerosoft uses different ordering systems.

Thanks

What, Amazon aren't using drones for this yet? .... very disappointed - I expected drones to be involved;  preferably taking the code from HQ and droning it to my local village's telephony switch, where it could then just travel the 0.3km to my house, by fibre optic! ....  Huh!

I bought a £2.99 book from Amazon yesterday, and that wasn't delvered by drones either - what is this, 1982 ??
