According to information received from flight sim websites around the world of individuals who had this crash, it was caused by high settings. I will add to that by stating a bad tweak like the BufferPool tweak which causes FSX instability on many occasions.

As you can see in this forum, many have had this crash and reported it here. Most recently it was FSX-SE users that got it quite often but Dovetail, the distributor of FSX-SE, they fixed this problem and I think it was done because they updated their Microsoft Visual used for installing FSX-SE and using a later version of Microsoft.net. In FSX, we cannot do that. We need to have Microsoft Visual 2005 w/SP1 and 2008 w/SP1 installed. And, the latest Microsoft.net that we can use is version 2.0 (for addons it might be 3.5 depending on the addon). FSX does not use Microsoft.net 4.0 or higher.

If lowering your settings does not work, then you will have to investigate the cause by following the guidance in the AVSIM CTD Guide. Then means you will have to move your fsx.cfg, dll.xml, exe.xml, and scenery.cfg to another temporary directory and then restart FSX. I personally would start with moving the fsx.cfg to a temporary directory, restarting fsx, and letting the config rebuild. That fixes most problems.

You can also delete your temporary shader folders and facilities and scenery indexes folders too. Those will be rebuilt when you restart FSX. See the AVSIM CTD Guide for description on how to accomplish this if you are not familiar with doing this..
