Uninstall for new processor or not?

Recommended Posts

I'm going to upgrade my processor and I was wondering if P3D would recognize a new processor for a different computer. In other words, do I need to uninstall P3D before making the switch and reinstall after, to avoid a 5013 error?

Cheers!

Uninstall. Not sure what you mean by "recognize a new processor for a different computer" though. It would be the same computer but just an upgraded processor. You will probably have to reinstall Windows too as Windows uses CPU identification.

No you don't need too. Then only change you may need within P3D config file is that if you have Affinity Mask enabled, then make sure it reflects the number of cores of your new processor, that's about it.

You don't have to re-install windows either, windows may ask for the Product key to be re-entered but that would be it.

Do you HAVE to? No. SHOULD you? You bet! that goes for BOTH WIndows and P3D.

There will be possible driver mismatches and other stuff that WILL jump up and bite you.

Be safe - I'd do a complete backup of the P3D install - uninstall it.

Reinstall Windows - update ALL the OS drivers

then reinstall P3D to same location - then - restore P3D backup if you want.

Not uninstalling both is asking for trouble.

And make sure after re installing Windows, install chipset drivers (Intel) before Video drivers.

These would be true if replacing a motherboard, and since when do you need drivers for a processor. Never heard of that one before.

^^Also with Carlos on this one. If you're not changing the MB and just plugging in a new CPU, there is absolutely no reason to reinstall anything.

Well, don't reinstall and if you have no problems - you're good to go.

Then look up Murphy's Law.....

Well, I dis agree with that. Whenever you change hardware, and using Intel chipset and CPU, you should always re run chipset drivers.

Glad to see that everyone is on the same track here. :P

I think I'll play it safe and take the opportunity to do a complete clean-up.

Thanks, guys! :)

Cheers!
